Oedipus and Nightingale (Bronya x Reader)

Oh boy. Oh boy howdy. That really hurt. Not quite as bad as when you crash landed on Alternia, but really close. You silently reminded yourself that maybe since Azdaja could have asked Konyyl to go with him to the canyons to train, you should have let him. You could hear him calling out to you from above, probably to see if you were okay. You couldn't respond because all of the air got knocked out of you like a whoopie cushion that had an anvil dropped on it. At some point the static like energy coming off of him became much more visible. It was probably around the point where you could breathe but you were starting to fade in and out of consciousness. 

The next time you woke up you were in a much darker place, quite literally. It was nice and cool wherever it  was. Suddenly  something  moved in the  corner  of  your vision.  It was small, about the  size  of your calf  and had lots of little nub legs.  You could feel the tight bandages around  your rib cage.  From gathering everything you could guess that you were probably down in the brooding caverns. You laid there for a while, drifting in and out of sleep.   Eventually, you assume after what must have been hours, Bronya came in to check on you. You could hear her saying something but it was like your head was underwater, so you just nodded along as best you could.  Eventually, though, you just ended up going back to sleep. 

You woke up again, this time by someone coming in. You jolted awake, forgetting you were more or less safe and sound down in the jades' brooding caverns. A wave of relaxation shot through you whenever you saw it was  your good ol  mom friend.  The skin on her hands was smooth and soft despite the amount of work she did.   She smiled lovingly at you. You tried to smile back, but even that found a way to hurt.  Something about her just always made you feel like you were a little kid swaddled up in a blanket and sitting on the couch with your mom. 

"vV are you feeling any better? Vv" she asked in a worried voice. You just nodded your head. It wasn't great, but at least you felt a little better. Not to mention your mind was on it less now that you had a kind and pretty face to distract you from it. You loved spending time with Bronya, but it was slowly feeling more and more unfair. It had to have started getting annoying for her to be nursing you back to health practically every time you two of you are actually face to face. Still, you were pretty beat up so you let her give you water and check all of your various injuries. 

Nights turned into a week and you were still down in the caverns. Granted, now you were able to move around a bit more and help her out a little. Even the other jades came by to see you. Mostly what you did was keep track of the grubs that needed special attention. They were a lot like human babies. Grubs mostly just ate, slept, and tried to kill themselves out of sheer ignorance for what could kill them. You had just finished saving one from falling off of the wall whenever Bronya came in. She looked shocked that you were up and walking around in the little nursery. You gingerly set down the olive blooded grub down in one of the little make shift bassinets. 

"Hey." You said. A smile sprang up on your face, just from getting to see Bronya again. God you were a fucking hopeless loser. It's not that you were normally trying to hide your feelings for people, but usually you weren't well cleaned glass levels of transparent about it. 

"vV thank you for saving that grub Vv" She smallest semblance of a blush started creeping up on her cheeks. Oh god that was cute. 

"No problem," you laughed a little, " I mean they do have to share a room with me right now." You sat down on the little hoard of miscellaneous fabrics that you were calling your bed. Bronya sat down next to you, looking wistfully at all the little grubs that she had rescued. She cared so much about the well being of everyone. You really wished you could be more like her. 

 "Hey, Bronya?" you asked, drumming your fingers on your thighs. 

"vV yes? Vv" She looked at you when she said it, your eyes meeting. It kind of made a lot of panic swell up in you.
