A/N: Inspired by Panic! At The Disco’s Do You Know What I’m Seeing.
It was a cold winter night. The Scouting Legion, or what was left of them, were busy preparing for the Victory Party against the Titans. Some group were busy cleaning and decorating the hall, some were starting to prepare Hanji’s choices of food including a big sweet pie she called cake. Erwin was drinking wine in one corner while Hanji were all over the place, instructing everybody of what else to do. Unnoticeable to anyone though was Levi who only looks on not even bothering to correct the cleaning method used by the group.
“I know it’s mad but if the world were ending, would you just kiss me or just leave me?” she asked in a husky tired voice.
“You very well know my answer to that, brat.” He didn’t dare to shut her up for asking such a tragic question. He was still Levi after all and he had no room for fancy ideas but only for reality.
“But I want to hear it.” Her dark eyes does not flinch as she stare at his steely blue eyes, inching a bit closer by seconds.
Levi shook his head to clear away his mind. He must let it go. There’s no point in repeating in his head everything that happened. Yes, it was the happiest moments in his life but it was also the most painful to recall. Levi stood up and decided to just give a lecture on how to properly clean the floor and the windows.
“You call this cleaning? Tch.” He grabbed the cloth from one of the cadets who were tasked to clean the windows. He demonstrated the stroke and how frequent the cloth should pass certain areas of the window glass. But everything seems there to punish him as he noticed that it’s snowing outside.
“I decided winter will be my favorite season from now on. Before, it feels lonely and uselessly cold but now that I have you, I guess it will going to be the best time to be cold and lazy and just stay in bed and cuddle with you.” She reached out to his sweaty forehead and swept away the hair away from his eyes.
“I never gave a damn about the weather and it never gave a damn about me. Though, I am sure I am giving damn about that cuddles.” He leaned in to kiss her already swollen red sweet lips.
“Captain, are you okay?” Levi snapped out of his reverie. He was shocked to find out that he had actually dropped the cloth and stood there motionless surrounded by young annoying cadets.
“Yes. Continue cleaning the way I prefer it. I’ll be back to inspect it.” He never had a block out before. He pushed his hair back and let out a big sigh. He reprimanded himself and promised not to let something like that slip again. He went to his room and touch the only tangible reminder that she has been alive. He held in his hands a blood soaked red scarf he can’t bring himself to wash. Yes, the humanity have won and his service was no longer needed but keeping his personality intact is important to him. It will keep him sane. He will survive and find Mikasa. No matter how long it takes.
It was his favorite place to think. In here, he can tune out people talking, cars honking and children laughing. It was a hill beside the city he lives in. Whenever his dream jolt him awake he will hike in this hill not caring if it was ungodly hour. Since he was a child and as long as he remembers there was always that dream and that something that bugs his mind he can’t pin point. It’s as if he forgot to do something but could not recall what it is. There was always that void in his heart and in his life that sometimes the only thing he could do was to over exert himself in cleaning whatever he sees filthy or not. But today was special. After his community service he went directly to the hill, he’s been itching to hike since morning. Usually, he went there before sunrise or after sunset. It was shortly after lunch time that he went there. He lay under his favorite tree, thinking it was such a big ass tree and marvel on clouds moving with the invisible wind. After a while, Levi closed his eyes and counted his breath. He hears the leaves swaying and birds chirping as if singing.
“If the birds are just hollow words, flying along, singing a song. What would they do? Oh if they just knew, what they could do.”
Instantly, he sat up and looked for the owner of the voice. She was there sitting, her back on him.
“I’m sorry if I startled you. I’ve been visiting this place every day and it is my first time to see you here in daylight. Usually you’re here at night.” She turned around to face him.
Levi looked at her like he had seen ghost. His mouth open, his throat dry and his eyes wide.
“Please don’t look at me like that. I live down there and I always saw you from my window when you hike. I’m very curious about you and I found you here and I guess…” she shrugged her shoulder as if realizing that whatever’s pouring out of her mouth is stupid.
“No, it’s okay. I just.. I’m just. Wow.” Levi was flabbergasted. He can’t believe what he is seeing. “You’re the lady in my dreams.” He whispered.
“W-was it about slaying gigantic people while flying on their nape?” her dark eyes sparked with recognition. “That’s why I’m drawn whenever I see you hike. That’s why your face was so familiar.” Suddenly, she was in tears. Realization finally setting in.
“You also have that dream?” He asked unbelieving.
“Yes. And this life time, like you promised in that dream, you have finally found me.” She said while in tears.
“What’s your name?”
“Mikasa.”
Levi repeated her name. Testing how it sounded on his lips. And then it happened. The void in his heart and in his life suddenly felt like it was just an imagination. That it was a long time ago. He now feels complete.
“Mikasa. I’m Levi.” He held his hand out to reach her. His eyes tear-stricken. “And yes, I finally found you.”
A/N: It was not a dream. It was memories they tucked in their genes so that in the future it will guide and lead them to each other. For eternity.
