I kept my promise. I kept watch over Jim for the next few days, and I felt the amulet react. My crystal started blinking, and I knew I had to protect Jim.
"For the honor of my father, light come to me!"
The blinking stopped and stabilized, and I knew he had his armor, so I relaxed slightly. I patrolled the border of his 'school' but I didn't see anything. The glowing stopped. I watched as Jim and Toby left the building and started biking home. The Trollhunter was safe, so I started to head back to the Troll market, where his training would begin.
The amulet senses danger. I should have realized what happened, but I hadn't. I watch in horror as the crystal around my neck starts pulsing again.
"FOR THE HONOR OF MY FATHER, LIGHT COME TO ME!"
I shout, but the blinking continues. I'm too far away. I hear a roar across town, and my heart drops. Bular has found the Trollhunter, and the troll hunter cannot transform. I run as fast as I can toward Jim's home and see both Blinky and Arrrgh already in the street waiting.
"WHERE IS HE!?!?!?" I shout.
Blinky merely shrugs.
I turn and watch just as Jim and Tobias come up the walk on their bikes.
"He...he tried to KILL US!" Jim yelled just as they came to a halt.
"Ah, Master Jim! I-"
Blinky was interrupted by Tobias, who shut him up with a jab to the chest.
"YOU! Your words are sweet, but you bring death with you!"
I pinch the bridge of my nose.
"Priorities, Tobias. How far behind is he?"
Jim was about to answer, but then I saw him.
Bular, I had not seen him since the battle with Kanjigar. My blood boiled.
"Run!" I shout, " Blinkous, get them to Trollmarket as quickly as possible, I'll deal with the Gum-gum!"
Blinky nods, as I turn to the troll that I had, centuries ago, once thought of as a brother. Not so anymore.
" For the Honor of my father, Light- come to me."
I felt my armor encase me as I ran toward the monster he had become. My bichuwa appeared in my fists, just as I pounced.
His blade met mine, and I was thrown fifteen yards.
"YOU-" I shouted, "WILL NOT TAKE ANOTHER STEP!"
I watched as his stone face curled into a grin, "Ah, our little Pandora- tell me... How does it feel knowing you are fighting the wrong side."
My glare sharpened, "Never.Call.Me.That. Again."
I attacked again and was blocked easily. My form was sloppy, and Bular knew it.
"You never could defeat me, halfling. Always needed your little Trollhunter to get you out of trouble. "
"So far... you.have.been. LUCKY!" I block his blade and send it sailing. He shrugs and pulls out his broadsword.
"Ah, but your Trollhunter can't help you now, can he? The amulet chose a weak FLESH BAG, unworthy and easily killed."
" You, Bular... will not lay a hand on James Lake."
I struck at his jaw with the hilt of my dagger and ran to catch up with the group.
As I reached them, I heard Jim trying to don his armor.
"I've been incanting the heck out of it!"
"Jim!" I yell, " Concentrate and RUN! He's right behind me!"
"For the Glory of Merlin, Daylight is mine to command!"
Nothing.
"You're NOT CONCENTRATING!" I shout as I pull him along.
"I'M CONCENTRATING, I'M CONCENTRATING! FOR THE GLORY OF MERLIN DAYLIGHT IS MINE TO COMMAND!"
Still nothing.
"CONCENTRATE BOY! OR WE WILL NOT SURVIVE THE NIGHT!"
"FOR THE GLORY OF MERLIN, DAYLIGHT IS MINE TO COMMAND! For...The Glory of Merlin... Daylight is Mine to... Command."
I watch as Jim's eyes close, just as Bular reaches him.
I watch as Jim is encased in light, just as Bular punches him into the sky.
"JIM!" I shout.
But then, I see it. His armor encased him mid-flight, and he landed at the bottom of the canal... unharmed.
"Excellent."
I slide down and join him, changing my bichuwa for the easier -to -use -sickle.
I clipped them together, just in time to block Bular's attack, giving Jim time to pull out his sword to attack.
" Blinkous! Get the portal open! We don't have much time!"
"Y/N WATCH OUT!" Toby screamed, and I rolled just far enough away to keep from being decapitated.
I try to activate my helmet, but I can't.
"crap, I forgot," I mutter.
I can't use it unless the Trollhunter does, and he can barely wield the sword yet...
Then, I see that same sword swing past. Bular blocks it, but barely.
" YES! Like that!"
I hear Toby yell, " Cut him like a meatloaf Jimbo!"
With a ferocity that I didn't think possible, James swung at the Gum-gum.
"Impressive." Bular commented, " But it will not save you."
Left and right the two weaved, as I just watched. Jim was holding his own.
"THE PORTAL IS OPEN! QUICKLY!" Blinky yelled, standing in the hole in the wall.
"JIM!" I shout.
"I'm... Coming...!" He grunted as he slipped his sword out of it's locked position against Bular's blade, "GO!"
"NO!" I shout, " NOT WITHOUT YOU!"
I extend the sickle in my grip, morphing it into a broadsword. Aiming for his shoulder, I strike at Bular, giving Jim time to retreat.
"THE PORTAL IS CLOSING! COME ON!" I hear Toby shout.
The two of us run as fast as we could, but we reached the wall just as the portal closed.
"NO!" Jim shouted, thinking we were doomed.
"BACK TO THE WALL! NOW" I order, as I press my back against the cement.
He follows my instructions, just as I feel the cement crumble. The portal reopened just long enough for Aaargh to pull the two of us through.
I collapsed to the ground the second we were through, trying to catch my breath.
"That... was too close." Toby commented, as he helped the both of us to our feet.
"Agreed." I said as I stared at the wall we had just come through.
"Way too close."
