When they were done gathering the humans, Flax transformed into a massive winged creature with a lot of fur on its back. After everyone had climbed on, he took flight and soon they had left the cats territory behind.

Flax flew for a while until he came to a field with trees and a river.

He landed and let the humans get off.

Rexorax looked around. So this is where the humans will stay...

The humans were quick to get settled. After barely a day they had begun to build structures to keep out cold, rain, and predatory Little Creatures.

Flax helped them when they needed it, but mostly sat back and watched.

Rexorax thought about his situation... I'm at Flax's mercy. I'm following him around because I never learned to avoid predators, learning to live as a bird seems so much more dangerous than learning to live as a dragon.

Will I just live out my short years by his side, trying not to draw attention to myself? I wish I could do more...

Flax looked up from the rock they were sitting on and drew a sharp breath.

Rexorax followed his gaze and saw that there was a unicorn standing over one of the villagers with its horn pointed at her, staring at Flax.

Flax got up. "I'll kill her." The unicorn was tense, but not panicked.

Flax hesitated.

"If you get closer, I'll kill her.

Now listen to me. You are going to abandon this area and go far away, or I'm going to transform this human and as many more as I can get." Flax backed up against the trees.

Rexorax, beside him, saw that he was extending a limb from his back behind the trees. He's planning to stretch it in a wide circle and get the unicorn from behind; Rexorax realized.

"Why are you doing this?" Flax asked.

"Because I want a place to settle down. And because it's you.

Everyone knowing that I was able to rob Flax of his territory, the great, the undefeatable-"

There was a shout, and a unicorn stumbled out of the trees wrapped in a tentacle.

"You brought a herd?" The hostage holder froze.

"Let the human go." Before the hostage holder could make a decision, the second unicorn pointed its horn at the tentacle and used a burst of magic, causing the tentacle to melt back for a moment as it took Flax by surprise. It was all the unicorn needed to take off and get to the first ones side.

"Go. The Little Creatures will tell us if you stay nearby." It lowered its horn, seemed prepared to make an example out of its hostage. "Get out of here."

Flax gathered himself up and sprouted wings. "If anything happens to the humans I will hear about it, and I will come back and wipe you out."

He took off, Rexorax grabbing on at the last moment.

After a lot of ground had passed and the sun had moved a to a different part of the sky, Flax landed next to a stream.

He sat in silence for a while, thinking, and Rexorax fluttered to a tree nearby.

Those unicorns could have chosen another place to make their home.

They just wanted the glory of taking Flax's, and they drove him out with no thought for him, or for the small creatures that may have been happier under him.
