Virgil woke to small giggles and hands lightly pushing and poking him. A few whispered "Virgil's" were also heard, as he whined, pulling his blanket up to cover his face. Two hands came to pull it off , but he recovered it again, but this time holding on to it securely, preventing it from going down his head again.

"Come on, Virgil! Lets play!" said Patton, the second last born prince of the Kingdom of Gainesville. He kept poking at the sleeping five year old on the dark purple bed, who groaned under his covers. "Go away, Pat." He mumbled, rolling over, causing him and his oldest brother, Roman to fall off the bed. The second brother, Logan, smartest and most mature, was there at their side in an instant.

Suddenly, an idea to prompt his littlest brother to play with them came to Roman, and he scrambled up the bed again.

"Ohh Virgil, do you want to build a snowman?" he sang. An eye peeked out from the blanket, glinting mischievously.

Bare little feet padded against the soft carpet of the castle, as the four brothers ran silently out from their shared room and down a grand winding staircase, clad only in their pajamas.

Giggling silently, hand in hand, they ran down the stairs leading to a small ballroom that's hardly used, serving as their night time playing area.

"Do the magic, Virgil! Do the magic!" Patton said, holding onto Virgil's two hands and spinning them around the center of the floor. Roman and Logan chorused after their cheerful brother. Virgil chuckled, pulling his smaller hands from Patton's, and made a gesture for all of them to back up.

Pulling his hands in front of himself, he concentrated, and a dark orb of energy appeared between his hands, growing as he separated his hands farther apart.

"Ready?"

Patton pulled his hands up to under his chin, eyes sparkling. Logan watched soundlessly, but his eyes sparkled with excitement and amazement like all the times they done this. Roman also watched, hands clapped silently together, awaiting impatiently.

Virgil glanced at them once more, his smile growing bigger, and he released the ball of energy upwards. Before it shot and almost touched the high ceiling of the room, it burst into millions of little pieces, and floated down like flakes of black snow.

Patton laughed merrily, dancing around, trying to catch the cold flakes in his mouth. It even tasted like snow! Roman laughed along, cupping them into his palms, and blowing them back to the sky in a flurry of black snow. Logan even let out a rare laugh, joining his younger brother in catching snowflakes on his tongue.

To surprise them more, Virgil sweep his hand at the direction of the smooth wooden floor, casting a layer of black ice to cover it. His older brothers immediately spread their arms out to help balance themselves, which didn't really help much in Patton's case , he still almost fell, but a strong grip on his arm by Logan steadied him.

"So then, Virgil. How about it?" Roman called from the other side of the room, next to a pile of the black snow, gathered from the sky.

Two balls of snow was soon rolled up, one smaller and more oval shaped. Patton held it up, and plopped it down heavily onto the bigger ball that Roman and Logan had rolled together. Virgil was now focusing to produce stones, sticks and a carrot with his magic. And a empty Starbucks Coffee cup that he thought was a nice addition.

Once it was made, he poked them into the snowman, ran behind it, and waved it's stick arms around, speaking in a slightly high pitch voice.

"Hi! My name is Remy! I like hot, hot coffee!"

Patton gave an inhumanly squeak of pure joy, and flung his arms around the neck of the snowman. "I love you, Remy!"

Minutes later, the four brothers were playing on a snow slide that they made, sliding down it one at a time, and bouncing off at the end with a trampoline shaped shadow that Virgil had created. They laughed and bounced around for a while.

Patton laughed, a figurative lightbulb going off in his mind, and he jumped higher, harder with the intention to perhaps jump off. Roman, Logan and Virgil quickly caught on, Roman and Logan also jumping harder, when Virgil jumped off and stood on the ice, conjuring another shadowy trampoline with the surrounding shadows around the corners.

Patton leaped off first, flying for a few seconds, before landing on his behind on the second trampoline. Logan went next, and then Roman. They laughed and jumped higher and higher with each leap, Virgil had to concentrate harder and harder to control the shadows.

Suddenly without warning, the three split up, making Virgil panic more. Now, he had to make three trampolines, all at once. Tears started to form in his eyes, and he cried out.

"Stop! Slow down! Please!" But no answer was heard. Virgil started to fold in onto himself, another dark ball of energy building up around his curled up body, growing in intensity as his panic heighted. Behind his tightly squeezed eyelids, his irises glowed a vibrant purple.

At that moment, time seemed to slow down. Roman, Logan, and Patton jumped at the same time in slow motion, and the dark energy field surrounding Virgil was released, spreading around the entire ballroom with a loud BOOM, hitting all the three brothers in midair.

Virgil's breathing slowly grew steady again, and he carefully pried open his eyes, his irises were back to there normal dark brown again. All of his older brothers were unconscious, but the first he laid eyes on was Roman.

The eight year old was sprawled out on a small drift of black snow, eyes closed.

"Roman!" Virgil yelled, picking himself off the ice covered floor, scrambling to his eldest brother.

"Roman?" he whispered, putting his hands on his shoulders, tilting him to face him. Suddenly, a streak of purple appeared on his bangs, permanently making a lock of his brown, luxurious hair a shade like Virgil's own. He looked at Logan and Patton, and a similar lock was forming on their bangs too.

Tears flooded his eyes again, remorse and self blame showing clear as crystal that shouldn't be have a right to be on a face so young.

"Dada!" "Dada!!" he yelled, tear tracks showing on his fair face. He looked desperately around at his unconscious siblings and at the grand door at entrance of the ballroom, praying for someone, anyone, to help him.

Sobbing some more, he buried his face into Roman's shoulder, crying quietly. The shadows around the room darken, becoming almost pitch black, and started moving like twisting snakes, circling the room and wiggled menacing. Virgil cried on, unknowing his own power slowly unraveling, out of control, without bounds or restrain any more.
