Piper sobbed in Annabeth's arms. The other four living members of the seven, Percy, Leo, Hazel, and Frank, along with Reyna, cried too. The loss of Jason was hard on all of them, but Piper in particular. She and Jason might have broken up, but he had still been her best friend, and to add to that, he had died so that she wouldn't. She felt like his death was her fault. Annabeth muttered words of comfort to her friend, but she knew that it wasn't helping much. She knew that she would be devastated if Percy died, that she would feel like she could have done something. Still, she encouraged her friend. Annabeth remembered how she hadn't trusted Jason for months, not until they had nearly reached Rome the previous summer. She felt bad about it now, that she hadn't trusted her friend for half of the time she'd known him. Now she couldn't apologize for that folly. Percy was heartbroken over the loss of his best bro. Reyna recalled all the times he'd helped her, how she could tell him almost anything. Frank remembered how nice the guy had been. Hazel was morning the loss of the boy who had been a hero to her. Leo was mad that he had not been there for the last few months of his best friend's life. As they each said a few words, they cried, even Annabeth and Reyna, who most of the campers thought of as almost emotionless, as they never saw either girl cry or show fear. It was a hard time for everyone, the final realization for some that this hero of the world was gone for good.
