"Maybe I do," Alec said harshly. Alec turned to face his parabatai.
"How can you even say that? Are you really going to get yourself killed because of some guy?"
Alec felt tears pressing his eyes, "You don't understand! He was the only reason I got up in the morning and saw a complete person. Not someone who had to hide or be afraid of who they were! I was miserable and scared and-" Alec broke down. He didn't want to but he could feel that darkness returning, that darkness that he thought was gone. He had been sadly mistaken.
Jace was staring at Alec as his brother fell to the ground in tears. He didn't know how to help. He had never seen Alec like this. Does that mean Alec had never been like this, no it doesn't, it just means Jace had never noticed.
Jace went over to Alec and wrapped his arms around him awkwardly. It was the thought that counted.
"Everything is going to be okay." Was the only thing Jace seemed to be able to say. That witty Jace was gone for that moment and perhaps wit was not the most appropriate thing for this situation.
There was a knock on the door and Izzy entered and without a word went over to comfort her brothers. They sat there for a long while until the sun shined through the open patio door.
They all awoke to booming voices arguing and Alec realized with a start that it was their parents. They all scrambled to their feet and ran down the stairs. Maryse and Robert were in the entryway yelling at each other until Alec cleared his throat loudly.
"Hello!" Maryse exclaimed and gestured for them to give her a hug.
"Jace, Izzy," Robert said with a smile, "Alec." He said with a scowl.
They went down the stairs and gave their mother a hug. Jace shook Roberts' hand and Izzy gave him a hug.
"Come on," Maryse said and led them to the kitchen, "I made breakfast."
They all sat together at the table. Alec occasionally poked at his food.
"So Alec how is Magnus?" Maryse asked. Alec knew she meant well but he still flinched at the question.
Jace and Izzy were worried that Alec would blow up at their parents but he didn't.
"We broke up," Alec said a little too quietly.
"Alec speak up!" Robert yelled.
"I said!" Alec said shouting across the table, "We broke up!" He pushed his chair out and ran for the stairs
