Over the next few weeks, Luke, Jai, James, Skip and Isobelle spent most of their time together. They were all in a lot of classes together and they spent every evening together with Beau.

Luke and Isobelle had managed to keep their relationship a secret from the rest of the boys - besides Beau and Jai - with neither of them guessing that anything was up. When Luke told Isobelle about his encounter with jai and Beau she felt so bad for causing it that she even told Luke that she would leave him for a while until everyone was okay. Of course, Luke refused to let her even think about leaving, let alone actually let her do it. And just as he promised, they kept their relationship muted when Jai was around as they knew he was hurting.

One media lesson Luke got called out to do some errands so was gone the whole class, leaving Jai and Isobelle alone.

Isobelle saw her chance and grasped it, "Jai?" she asked cautiously.

"Yeah?"

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine, what about you?" he replied casually.

"I'm fine. But that’s not what I meant Jai. You know it." She said prompting him.

Jai sighed and said "I know". Isobelle stayed silent waiting for a further response to her question. "I'm, I'm okay I guess. It's just hard. It is getting easier though." He said with a forced smile.

"I'm sorry Jai…"

There was complete silence for a few seconds and then Jai spoke. "You don’t understand, neither of you do. You and Luke are happy and you can't see what that’s doing to me. When I first saw you I thought you were the most beautiful girl I had ever seen and I know that I'm never gonna think any different. I thought I had a chance to make you mine, but Luke got there first. I don’t hate either of you for it, even though you may think I do, I don’t. I just didn’t think you would be the sort of person to make snap decisions like that. Within 7 hours you two were dating. To be perfectly honest, I envy Luke so much right now." Jai finished, leaving Isobelle speechless. "And you know the worst thing?" he asked "I can't even talk to anybody. You and Luke aren't exactly approachable when it comes to this, James and skip don’t even know about you, and Beau thinks we're both idiots." He sighed and bowed his head.

"Jai, please look at me." Isobelle said when she finally got her mouth to say words.

Jai ignored her and continued to stare at the floor. "Fine then don’t, I'll just talk to the back of your head then." She said. "I do understand what you're feeling Jai because I've been in this situation before back at home. My best friend and I both liked the same boy but she got there first and I never got over it. In my opinion, he should have been mine. But I had to deal with it on my own because I had nobody to talk to as they all thought I was an attention-seeking whore. Please don’t hide what you want to say, I know you think I'm a desperate, self-absorbed, slag and I'm a horrible person, and to be perfectly honest, I agree with you. Tell me it. And I don’t give a fuck what Luke says." She finished.

Jai looked at her in shock and said "you are none of those things."

"I am and you know it." Isobelle replied stubbornly.

Jai rolled his eyes and just said "no."

For a second their eyes met and they could almost see what the other was thinking. Jai reached out and swept a strand of hair away from Isobelle's face and said "I'm always going to be here, and I will never, ever let you talk about yourself like that again. I'll tell Luke and he will do the same." he said in an attempt to lighten the mood slightly.

Isobelle heard how honest he was being with her and reached over and took him in her arms and promised him that she would not make it hard for him and that she would do everything in her power to ensure that he never felt the way he did then ever again.

They broke the hug and smiled at each other. For the rest of the lesson they didn’t mention the subject at all and just talked about anything and everything.

Jai felt as if a huge weight had been lifted off his chest, at least for a small amount of time, and for once just enjoyed his time with Isobelle. He knew that if he could talk to Isobelle about it then he could talk to Luke about it too and eventually, he would be able to put his feelings towards Isobelle aside, not completely, just enough in order to be happy for her and his brother. Isobelle felt the same and just hoped that Luke didn’t have any plans for later so she could talk to him about it properly too. She needed to make sure she had everything sorted before she got anywhere else.

As the bell rang to signal end of class Isobelle got up and walked towards the door to leave she could have sworn that she felt Jai's hand brush hers and him say "I love you Isobelle, I promise…"
