Chapter 3
" Wow, the place looks great." I gasp. The diner had a typical retro style, the place even had a jukebox in the corner. I saw waitresses wearing white blouses and black leggings, with a white apron. Simple yet chic, I like it.

" My family has run this business for only a few generations, I'll interview you quickly, and we'll get you started. First thing tomorrow on Monday." He explains.

" Oh that would be great." I exclaim. But I just remember, I'm only 18 with nothing. I can't believe school just came to mind just now. Yeah Astrid, school first.

" I just remembered, I have class tomorrow, maybe a shift after school maybe?" I ask with hope he'll let me have that shift.

" Yeah it's fine, we'll need as much help as we can get. Now follow me, and we'll get started with the interview." He says while patting my head.

I blush a little, and I keep my head down while following him. Maybe this is the guy, the guy that can get me back to my old life. I look around the back room, and I see couches and a beat up old vending machine that is definitely in need of fixing. Parker and I both sit down by an old coffee table, and I fight the urge not to avoid his eye contact.

" Let's start with the basics. Have you had any experience in a restaurant before?" Parker says.

I'm a freaking high school student, I don't have any experience in anything but failing tests. " No, not really, but I sure am I fast learner." I say nervously. Lies, lies, think about the money you'll earn Astrid, think about the money.

" That's fine, myself or other workers here would be willing to help you. Hmm, what was your GPA before you moved here?" Parker says curiously.

" Well I have a 3.-," wait, I'm an angel, the book said I have a fresh start. Might as well seem smart, than seem dumb. " I have a 4.0 GPA, is there anything else you might want to ask." I question.

" What's your phone number? You know, so um, I can contact you just in case." He says with a little bit of flirt.

My eyebrows go up in curiosity, and before I open my mouth the door swings.

" Parker Jones what the hell are you doing here?" I hear a person yell.

I was startled and my mind just went poof. I look up and I see a maybe early 40s guy, with a big beer belly, and questionable stains on his apron. Honestly, if I didn't know any better he looks like Gordon Ramsey with a beer belly.

" Dad, I found a girl who needs a job for you, maybe she'll make a good addition to the restaurant." Parker says awkwardly.

" Son, you don't even work here. You do not have the right to pick up girls on the street and bring them in the back room, then flirt and bang them." the father says angrily.

" But she looks cute, and I was about to get her number." Parker whines.

" I do not care Parker, now get the hell out before I take your car keys." He says like a drill sergeant.

" Yes father." He says defeatedly, and he leaves the room. I chuckle a little, and Parker's father sits in the chair in front of me. Oof, Parker's dad used threat, it was very effective.

" Sorry about that, our son is very, special in a way. But between you and me he is a man whore." He says in a whisper.

I try my hardest not to burst out laughing, and I look up at him and try my hardest to keep a neutral face.

" Hopefully an angel falls from heaven and knock some sense into that boy. But I'm sure that is far from now." He sighs.

I laugh nervously, and I look around the room and survey the area. The room seems old, I can feel the oldness in the room. Torn up couch, a few soda cans spread around the area, this place totally seems like an ideal break room.

" So I've heard you're looking for a job, you're in luck, one of our waitresses left for reasons I'm not sure of. She was young though, maybe she got bored. But you seem like a nice girl, you're shift starts 4:00 and hour after your class ends, I don't need no resume. I only need my two eyes to see if you're a slut or not. Other than that, you'll get your uniform tomorrow, and I'll guide you through when your shift starts." He explains.

I smile out of excitement, and I jump for joy. Thank God that Parker guy left, he was sure as hell hot, but he was so damn annoying. I stood up from my chair and gratefully thanked Mr.Jones and went on with my day. While walking out of the diner, I notice Parker flirting with a girl who is definitely illegal. Boys will be boys. I scoff and I walk out, and I hear somebody calling my name.

" Astrid? Astrid!" Parker calls out.

I let out a huff of air loudly, and I stare at Parker with my signature death glare.

" Hey." He catches up to me. " Did you get the job?" He asks with excitement.

" Yes, I did. Now leave me the hell alone, you're annoying the crap out of me." I say wickedly, and I speed walk back to my apartment.

I open the lock to my apartment, and when I really look at this place. My own apartment looks gloomy as hell. I remember my own home with my family, a radio would be playing, my father would be watching football. I would hear my mother scolding my brother for not wearing a condom. Ah good times.

I look at the $500 that were given to me by God himself. Maybe I should save up, or maybe get a phone. Yeah, definitely a phone. I walk towards the fridge and holy crap. It's filled with food, eggs, bacon, milk, food that can at least help me for a few weeks. I thank God mentally and I take out some eggs.

I look in the cupboard and I reach for the frying pan. I wave the frying pan around thinking I'm Rapunzel from Tangled. I wish I could whack Parker with a frying pan. Wait why am I thinking about him? Ugh gross, I can sense his testosterone from a mile away. I crack 2 eggs on the pan, and I eat my eggs quickly.

I pat my chubby belly, and I walk into my bedroom. Of course there is no blankets, but dang this place is clean as my parents bedroom. Which makes me wonder how they're doing now, my heart sinks a little, but I'm sure the place I'm in now, is far from home. Next thing I know, I face plant my face into my bed, knowing school is tomorrow. Oh wait school, oh crap, I'm gonna pray I wake up early enough for school without a phone.

- -
I hear birds chirping loudly outside of my window, probably fighting over a mate. I get up quickly and I get ready for school. I notice kids with backpacks already on their way to class, well fuck, I woke up late. I realize I literally have nothing to wear considering I just came from heaven, no toothpaste or toothbrush either. I look in the mirror and shrug, I hope kids there aren't mean, last year was such a nightmare. I head into the bathroom and wash my face, I skip breakfast and dash out the door with my keys.
