Vengeance

Mankind is greedy. The surface they tainted proved uninhabitable. The air too toxic for them to breathe. Cherishing their own has no valuable meaning to them. Destroy and destroy and destroy. It's all they know. Why save when you can start again? They'll devour anything...anything! If it'll give them a coin. They reap the benefits of what they sow but they don't stick around to face the consequences. Greed. The embodiment and perfect manifestation of greed.

Mankind is arrogant. How many times must our corpses litter their shores before they'd learn? Oh...they think themselves so untouchable. The havoc they wreak can never reach them. But us? What of us? When our vision becomes too clouded...when our lungs fill up with chemical...are we untouchable too?

Mankind is selfish. Gaia gave them a home and they kill her in return. So generously she offered them her children. She allowed them to eat. And they forced her to see the monstrosity they'd become because of it. Helpless, she watched her children tortured... bound to cages, there was no peace before death. And man...they give no second thought. No regards, not even for their own. Foolish to expect they'd care about us.

But....mankind is oblivious. They forget there was a time when we ruled. And man, so young, was eager to explore, yet afraid...afraid of the depths. But then greed. But then arrogance. But then selfishness. Their fear was gone. There could be no harmony. There could be no balance. We watched them do what they do best, until it started to seep below. Traces of them completely surrounded us. So we sent them wave after wave. We wanted to swallow them whole. Yet still, they persisted. Still, they didn't see the growing unrest, the calm before the storm.

Their land has nothing left to offer them...she is so tired now. They wish to turn the abyss into shining lights...and would we let them? Will we let them build to escape their own torment? Even if it costs us everything? Man after man that they send...we see. They catch glimpses of us in the shadows. Convinced it's a trick of the mind. The depths are still so scary after all.

But...as you poisoned yourselves, you poisoned us too. Unlike you... we couldn't escape! Not even the vastness of the unknown could save us. We stayed so valiantly, defiant in the face of our doom. Your doing. It morphed us, and we stay here...changed. Recognizing us is impossible now...even Gaia has turned her back.

We are no ones children. We are the monsters that lurk in the dark. We are the things that didn't exist. We are the trick of the mind. We don't need your shining lights. We were spawned in your destruction, and we will not fail to devour you, as you have us.
