Yaz took a deep breath, admiring the hue of blue that covered the wooden box. The adventures that she had experienced with the Doctor so far had been amazing, unlike anything Sheffield could offer her day to day.
She struggled to understand why Graham and Ryan didn't want to travel with the doctor anymore. In her eyes, she was the most wonderful person she had ever met, and as much as Yaz missed her family when she was away travelling, she knew she'd miss the Doctor more.
The girl finally felt ready to speak with her, after a sleepless night she had had a lot of time to think about it. She pushed the TARDIS doors open, taking in the beautiful sight of the console room. The blonde woman looked up as she saw Yaz enter, a saddened smile is displayed on her face.
"Oh hiya, Yaz! Did you come to say goodbye properly this time?" She joked, trying to lighten the mood.
"Doctor," she started, anxious that the woman would decline her request altogether. " I've been thinking..."
The Time Lord looked at the girl from across the room with an eyebrow raised, curious to hear what she had to say to her.
"Do you have to go?" Yaz continued, as the Doctor walked across the room toward her, somehow silently on the metal grated floor.
"Without me I mean..."Yaz gazed at her, nervously biting at her lip as she tried to figure out what the Doctor was thinking. Her face had no clear emotion, but in the silence of the console room she could almost hear her thoughts whirring around inside of her beautiful brilliant head.
"I want more of the universe," she continued, locking eyes with her, "More time with you."
"Why?"
The girl was taken aback by the Doctor's question, knowing full well she couldn't tell the woman her true intentions of travelling with her.
"What do you mean?"
The older woman couldn't look at Yaz as she continued, fearful that she might accidentally scare her off, or worse... talk some sense into her.
"Why would you want to travel with someone that you know so little about?"
Yaz frowned. She hadn't really thought about why. All that she knew was when she spent time with the Doctor, she felt wonderful. Even in the face of danger, there was something about the woman that made Yaz feel as though she could trust her with her life. It was a feeling that no one else in the universe could give her.
"Well, why don't we travel together to get to know each other? It's a brilliant bonding activity!"
"Yaz, I can't guarantee your safety," she warned, her face becoming stern, "be 100% sure that you understand. The places I go, the things I do... It won't always be a jolly day-trip."
"I'm sure," she answered without hesitation, excitement rushing over her. She had just made a huge decision, yet somehow didn't feel uneasy. The thought that she would finally be able to spend some time alone with this mad, beautiful woman was enough to make anyone forget their troubles.
The Doctors face changed within an instant.
"Brilliant!" She beamed, pulling Yaz into a hug.She excitedly skipped back to the console, her long blue coat fanning out behind her as she picked up speed, clearly happy with the girls choice.
"Where to first?"Her eyes widened at the question, overwhelmed with all of the possibilities.
"Why do I have to choose?" She laughed, shaking her head nervously.
"Ladies first!" She briefly explained, rushing over to her.
"But you're a lady too!" She protested.
The Doctor stopped abruptly in front of her, slightly frowning before continuing.
"Oh yeah. I'm still not use to that!"The woman took Yaz's hand and pulled her to the middle of the room, nearly causing the girl trip over her own feet to keep up with the blonde. She stopped her, putting both hands on her dark shoulders and leaning into her face.
"Come on, Yaz. All of space and time, everything that ever happened and ever will. What do you want to see?"
The girl swallowed, her throat dry as she racked her brain for a sensible suggestion.
"Could you narrow it down for me?" She eventually laughed, "I'm not very good at making decisions on the spot like this, especially space/time related ones..."
The Doctor smiled sympathetically.
"Don't worry. The paradox of choice is overwhelming," she took both of Yaz's hands and placed them on two different buttons."I've preprogrammed two times and dates to go to. One in the past, one in the future. All you have to do is press one of them and we'll go there."
Yaz looked at the buttons at her fingertips. One was round and light orange in colour, the other was hexagonal and yellow.
She smiled, "it's like space roulette.""Space time," the doctor corrected, nudging her playfully.
"So, what's it gonna be, Yaz?" She raised an eyebrow, "Orange or yellow? Past or future?"
"Are you always this cryptic in your descriptions?" Yaz laughed, shaking her head.
"Why, making you nervous?" She joked back at her. "Besides, you're the one having trouble choosing a destination."
She stuck her tongue out in a childlike manor with that sentence, causing Yaz to roll her eyes before her face cracked into a smile.
"Fine," she said, finally. "I choose orange."
The Doctor smiled, happy that Yaz was finally playing along with her little game.
"Well, go on. Press it!"She hesitated for a second, thinking about where in the universe she would end up, before pushing down on the button. The TARDIS made a loud whooshing sound as she took off, the middle console lit up as she began to fly them to their destination.
