*ninth day*

Ernst could tell something was off.

Eins didn’t talk that much - well, he never talked that much usually, to be fair - and stayed in his chambers, listlessly staring out his window. Of course, if one did not know His Highness Prince Eins very closely, he could be viewed as lost in his thoughts. But, being his childhood friend - now lover? Ernst didn’t know - Ernst could definitely tell something was wrong.

“Eins, whatever is the matter?” Ernst laid his head on Eins’s shoulder, purposefully making his hat drop because he knows Eins will fix it.

Exactly as he knows, Eins turns slightly to fix his hat. “It seems there will be a change in the plans today, Ernst.”

“Hmm?” As far as Ernst knows, Eins has already finished all his work, and the only plans he has are Princess Adele’s tea party and dinner.

“Adele is sick with a fever, so the tea party was cancelled.”

“Eins!” Ernst exclaims. “Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”

“I myself have only been notified of this just recently.” Ernst feels Eins take a piece of his hair and twist it around his finger.

Ernst sighs. “So, you have no plans until dinner, right?”

“That is correct.”

Ernst brightens, putting on a mischievous smile. “Are you going to use the time to write in your diaries?”

Eins’s response is flat and straight to the point. “No.”

“Well then, why don’t you go visit your sick little sister then?”

“I’m sure she doesn’t want another brother fawning over her right now. Besides, she needs rest.”

“You’re so cold, Eins~” Ernst pouted, nuzzling his cheek against Eins’s.

“I can assure you, my body temperature is the same as any normal human’s.”

“Well then, why don’t we test that?” Ernst purred, moving from his position behind Eins to Eins’s lap. Even with the nine centimeters Eins had - as he was taller than Ernst - Ernst’s hat still blocked his field of vision. Ernst felt his hat being taken off his head and the slight wind that came from Eins’s throwing it across the room.

“Eins! You threw my hat!”

“It was blocking my sight, Ernst. It is only natural to get rid of the thing.”

“My hat is not a thing!”

“It is an object - therefore, it is a thing.”

“Hmph. You better give me compensation for that, then.” Ernst turns around - a somewhat difficult act in Eins’s lap - and attempts to lay his head on Eins’s shoulder. Being in the position he was, it was near impossible. Ernst gave up and settled with just sitting in Eins’s lap, facing the purple-haired prince.

“And what is this supposed ‘compensation’, Ernst?” Eins did not look particularly happy about Ernst sitting in his lap, but since he wasn’t physically trying to throw Ernst out the window, he took it as a good sign.

“Hmm…      I don’t know.” Contrary to his words, Ernst took Eins’s lips with his. He felt Eins’s lips part with surprise and took the opportunity to dart his tongue in Eins’s mouth. He hummed, satisfied with the fact that Eins’s mouth no longer tasted of tobacco. It seemed that the prince seriously intended to stop smoking.

They broke apart, it being somewhat difficult to kiss with both of them in a chair. “And you say you don’t know what your supposed ‘compensation’ is, countess?” Eins said, frowning.

Ernst smiled. Even frowning, Eins was adorable. Ernst would admit that.

“Princess, you should know by now that I take much more for compensation.”

“Countess, your ‘compensation’ means nothing to me.”

Ernst raises his eyebrow. “Nothing, princess?” He whispered, smirking, into Eins’s ear. He licked the inside of Eins’s ear, seeing the twitch in the purple-haired prince’s features. Ernst pushed Eins off the chair and onto the bed, kissing him.

“Ernst-”

“Is this nothing, Eins?”

Eins doesn’t answer, closing his eyes and letting Ernst take over. He takes out Eins’s hair, darting his tongue into Eins’s mouth. Without the taste of tobacco, Eins’s mouth tastes of tea and and coffee.

Eins opens his eyes as Ernst slips on his hair tie onto his wrist. The prince frowns. “Ernst-”

“I’ll tie up your hair later.” Ernst stops kissing Eins and moves from above the prince to next to him. He faces Eins, a fond smirk on his face. He kisses Eins’s cheek, feeling Eins lay his head in the crook of Ernst’s neck - more of an attempt to hide his blushing cheeks than an act of affection. Ernst wraps his arms around Eins, one hand just below his neck and one at the small of the prince’s back. “Is this a better way to spend your time, princess?”

Eins mumbles something inaudible against Ernst’s neck - he only catches the word “countess”.

“Eins? I couldn’t hear you.”

Eins raises his head to Ernst’s ear, the words now audible (as well as Eins’s red cheeks, which Ernst could see clearly and thought it made Eins even cuter). “Don’t make me repeat myself again, countess.” He whispers something, his lips brushing Ernst’s ear. “I said, yes, countess.”

Ernst notes Eins’s positively red cheeks and the way Eins’s hair curls slightly when it’s not in its ponytail as Eins doesn’t move his head.

It was quite the uneventful day, save for dinner and laying in Eins’s bed until then.
