As all the commotion happened outside, Ace Merrill sat in the kitchen, he was in a deep conversation with Rick and he wasn't letting anything break it up, the two had been so engrossed coming up with a plan about where and when their next job was going to be they hadn't even noticed they were the only ones in the house.
Ace was drinking a cold beer, while fiddling with his switch-blade.
"What were you thinking?" Rick asked him, a frown on his face and his arms crossed. "Jesus! Ace, if the cops had caught you, you'd be dead. You don't go around your own town setting fire to buildings, man. What if someone had seen ya?"
"If anyone did, they wouldn't dare mess with me, Rick. I know what I'm doing," Ace replied, half listening he was too busy thinking of another job that had been planned in his head.
"You're playing a dangerous game, Merrill."
"Yeah well it's good thing I know how to play it."
"I don't think you do. You go squawking my name to the fuzz and you'll be sorry." Rick threatened, the two of them unaware of a certain fight that was taking place in the back yard.
"Relax, Pal." Ace shot at him. "If you start acting all jittery, people are bound to start talkin', now there's plenty of girls here so get yourself a lay"
The two of them were interrupted by an out of breath Jack Mudgett.
"Jesus! Ace! Someone's set fire to your car!" Jack exclaimed.
Rick and Ace clambered to their feet and made their way to the Merrill drive way. Ace watched as the beautiful bonnet to his red caddy was engulfed in flames. Ace calmly stood there as Jack fetched a bucket to put the flames out.
After Jack had managed to stop the fire from spreading he turned to Ace. "You think this was Bobby?"
"Nah, that pussy wouldn't dare." Ace sighed, pulling out a toothpick from his shirt pocket.
"How many enemies do you got round here, man? Shit! This is gonna cost a lot to fix." Rick exclaimed, his eyeballs poking out of his head.
"Well then fix it." Ace stated and walked down the driveway, he was in need of a hard drink or two.
"Charlie, what are you doing?" Billy Tessio asked, while he watched Charlie hurriedly pack a few things into a worn out suitcase.
"Getting out of here, Billy. Jesus! Ace is going to kill me, what the fuck was I thinking?"
"Wait! Was it you who set fire to his car?" Billy questioned as he watched Charlie pace up and down his bedroom, after the party at Ace's was over Billy had decided to sneak into Charlie's house to see how he was doing.
"Huh?" Charlie responded, not knowing what he was talking about. "He's going to kill me once he finds out about what I did to Rebecca, I gotta get outta here. Billy. Will ya help me? Can you drive me to Castle View?"He asked, pulling at his hair in frustration.
Billy gave him a look of wonderment. "Jesus Christ! Castle View? What the heck are you going all the way up there for?"
"I ain't got time to explain," Charlie hurriedly lifted the suitcase.
"I TOLD YA, YOU WERE PLAYING WITH FIRE, CHARLIE!" Billy screamed, if Ace found out he was helping Charlie, there would be hell to pay.
"Shhh you'll wake up my folks." Charlie tried to warn him.
"But did you listen? No you didn't and now it's down to me to save your candy ass again."
"Charlie? Are you all right?" They heard his father's voice call out and then his bedroom door shook, luckily it was locked. The two men looked at each other and Billy sighed with a shrug, deciding to help his friend get away.
"Don't ever tell anyone I helped you out, okay?" He sighed and Charlie nodded his head enthusiastically.
Charlie threw his packed suitcase out of the small window and then proceeded to jump down onto his neighbours lawn, Billy followed suit shortly after.
"You think Rebecca will ever forgive me?" Charlie asked as they walked towards Billy's moms car.
"Jeez, what is with you? Does she have magic titts or something?" Billy rolled his eyes, he was starting to get annoyed with all this drama, he wanted his old friend back.
"Billy."
"Uh, fine. I don't know. I'm sure she'll calm down eventually," He answered, as he opened the driver's door to his mothers Mustang and they both hopped in. "You know what girls are like, always pissin' and moanin' then they moan about pissin' and moanin'"
"True." Charlie nodded.
Billy turned the radio on as they made their way to Castle View in the dark of the night Everybody's Somebody's Fool by Connie Francis played and Billy couldn't think of a more fitting song.
