"Remind me why we're doing this again?" You asked as your husband finished making a second bowl of punch.
"Because we love our daughter. I can't believe they already finished the punch."
"I can't believe you're making more. She's gonna crash hard tonight, but she's gonna be super hyper until that happens." You looked around at the all the first graders crowded in your living room playing a game similar to groundies.
"Mommy! Mommy! When is Uncle Seb and Uncle Em gonna get here?"
"I don't know pumpkin. The weather's pretty yucky." You gestured at the window. It was pouring outside. Your daughter pouted.
"Hey, no pouting!" Remington said and scooped her up off the floor. She giggled. "Princess aren't supposed to pout." She giggled again and lost her tiara.
"Oppie!" One of her friend's called.
"Daddy! Put me down." Remington gave her kiss and set her back on her feet. She fixed her tutu and put her tiara back on her head before running back into the living room.
"She is so cute! How did that happen?" Remington asked.
"How did it happen? Look at me! I'm the cutest!" He laughed and gave you a hug.
"Right. My bad."
"We're here!" Sebastian said as he came in soaking wet.
"Uncle Seb!" Ophelia ran to Sebastian he picked her up. "Ewwww! You're all wet!" He shook his head and got her wet. She giggled and pushed his head away from her.
"What am I? Chopped liver?" Emerson asked as he pushed Sebastian further into the house.
"Uncle Em!" Ophelia put her arms out for Emerson. He took her from Sebastian and she put his hat on her head."
"Would you two actually go in the house? We're getting wet!" Larisa said and pushed past Sebastian and Emerson with her and Sebastian's daughter, Jayla, in her arms and Shy right behind her.
"Auntie Rissa!" Ophelia wiggled around until Emerson put her down. She wrapped her arms around Larisa's waist.
"Happy birthday, Oppie!" Jayla said as Larisa put her down.
"JJ!" Oppie gave her cousin a hug.
"Yeah, Happy birthday, honey!" Shy said.
"Thanks Auntie Shy!" Ophelia gave her a hug too before grabbing Jayla's hand and going back to her friends. As she ran past Emerson grabbed his hat off her head.
"You look like a bunch of drowned rats." Remington said with a snicker.
"I was starting to think you weren't gonna make it." You said.
"It was touch and go there for a little bit, but here we are." Larisa said, smiling at all the kids.
"Mommy!"
"Coming, pumpkin." While you tended to Ophelia and her friends the recent arrivals stripped of their wet jackets. After taking the wet jackets and hanging them up Remington joined the kids in the living room. He sat down cross legged on the floor and was immediately the center of attention. Ophelia sat down in his lap and adjusted her tiara.
"Tell us a story!" She said and gave him a cheesy grin.
"Sure. Let me think." He cleared his throat. "Once there was a princess. She was the prettiest princess in the land." You smiled as you watched him interact with kids.
"Pizza is in the oven. Since we can only do two at once we'll feed the kids first and then us." You said. "Then well do the cupcakes followed by presents and a movie."
"Thank you for giving Jayla unfairly high expectations for birthday parties." Larisa said. You laughed.
"What can I say? I'm super mom." You turned to check how much longer the pizzas needed to be in the oven.
"Oh my gosh! (Y/N)!" Shy grabbed your arm and you turned to look. Remington was standing in the living room wearing a pink tutu and a tiara. You laughed and he pouted.
"You look beautiful, honey." You said, trying to keep a straight face and failing miserably.
"He's Princess Sprinkles of Sparkle Forest!" Ophelia said while giggling. "And I'm princess Lollipop!"
"That's amazing. Go stand by daddy and let me get a picture!" You held up your phone and snapped a picture. Remington was still pouting and Ophelia had her arms around his legs, smiling wide. "C'mon Princess Sprinkles, smile for the camera!" All the kids laughed. Remington rolled his eyes, but smiled. The timer went. You got the pizza out and cut.
"Pizza!" You announced. A dozen kids ran to the table. You didn't have enough chairs for everyone, but six year olds are resourceful. They shared chairs. They were served cheese pizza on pink princess covered paper plates and fruit punch in pink princess covered paper cups. Twenty minutes later all of them had pizza sauce on their hands and faces.
"Here Princess Sprinkles wash your daughter's face." You handed your husband a wash cloth and he stuck his tongue out at you. Once all the kids were semi clean you passed out the cupcakes and sang happy birthday. Then it was time for presents. You saved yours for last. Remington gingerly sat the box on the table in front of her. She pulled the bow off and opened the box. She squealed and pulled her present out of the box.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" She smiled at you and held the puppy close.
"Her name is Hazel." You told her.
"She's perfect!" The kids all crowded around to pet the puppy and let her lick their hands and faces.
"I think we can file this as a success." Remington said with a grin.
"I still can't believe I let you talk me into buying her a puppy."
"Look how happy she is! Isn't that worth it?" He was right. She was grinning and hugging Hazel tightly.
"Yeah. It is."HEY YOU!
