[Jaemin] 9:54 am. Saturday.
—
The sound of my doorbell screeching through the morning air stops me from finishing brushing my teeth.
Sticking the toothbrush to the side of my mouth, me and my oversized hoodie waddle down the hall to go open the door. I unlock and open it, and seeing who is at the door, immediately turn around and walk back to the bathroom, letting the people at the door enter my house and disrupt my early morning peace.
"Jaemin did you get the movie I told you to rent or no?" Someone screams from the living room. I spit into the sink, rinse my mouth and wander out of the bathroom, finally getting a good look at the people who thought it was ok to ruin my Saturday.
"Well hello to you too Jisung," I say, glaring at a certain male who is currently hanging off of the back of my couch. He gives me a sheepish smile and jumps off my precious furniture. I roll my eyes.
I scan the room, my eyes landing on every single one of them. Jisung, Renjun, Chenle, Donghyuck, Mark, and of course, Daehwi. Every Saturday my dear friends from back when I was in college randomly crash my place, sit around doing whatever they decide they want to do that day, and order me to make them food and pay for other random expenses that they create.
I pretend that I hate every single one of them whenever they come over, and while it does bother me a bit that they decided that my house was the best place for these hectic gatherings, I secretly treasure each and every single one of them with all my heart. I feel responsible for them, like a mother would. And I did basically raise Jisung when his parents left him to his aunt, so I feel like I should get credit for that.
As the rest of them strut into the kitchen and pull out their phones, I walk up next to Daehwi and bump his shoulder playfully. He smiles at me and bumps me back.
"Did you schedule that show for Jimin and Taehyung on the fifth?" Daehwi asks me, pulling out his phone.
"Ughh I don't even want to think about work right now," I groan, throwing my head back in frustration. He chuckles softly next to me.
"I'll have to call Chungha and ask her if we can have a meeting about scheduling," I tell him.
"Yeah," he responds, engrossed in something on his phone. I sigh in defeat and retreat to the kitchen where the rest of the group resides currently. They are all leaning up against the island in the middle of the kitchen, not even talking to each other, just on their phones.
I decide I am going to make us all breakfast, and so they need to get out of my kitchen.
"Move. Get out," I shoo, walking in between the cluster of boys, pushing them out of my way. They scatter, but don't completely leave, staying in the hallway, looking up at me eagerly.
"Whatcha gonna make us, Jae?" Donghyuck asks cheekily when I open up the cabinet and pull out a bowl.
"Oh get out," I sigh, "You'll find out sooner or later," I glare at him with fake annoyance, but hyuck just scampers happily away and throws his arms around mark's shoulders in a more than friendly way when he gets over to the rest of the group.
Renjun walks into the kitchen as I start pulling out more utensils.
"I'll help you make pancakes?" He suggests softly, his voice bouncing off the white walls. I give him a warm smile, and hand him the extra apron I have, accepting his offer silently. We get to work right away, neither of us talking, each understanding the peacefulness of silence. Our hands busy and our minds clear, the pancakes get finished in no time.
Renjun carefully walks the steaming tower over to the dinning table and sets it down cautiously.
"It's ready!" I yell into the living room, where the boys are playing a very intense game of uno.
"We are going to finish this game once we are done eating ok," chenle pleads, "this is the closest I've ever gotten to beating jisung, and I'm not letting that go."
"Do whatever you want lele, but there is no way I'm finishing this game, I already lost. There isn't even a point in playing anymore," Daehwi sighs, throwing his large hand of cards on the floor and getting up off the living room floor.
They eventually file into their seats, after a bit of a tussle over the seat closest to the large stack of pancakes—jisung and donghyuck, respectively—, and start to pile food on their plates.
"Everyone say thank you to mother Jaemin and auntie renjun," donghyuck throws a mock solemn look around the table, and makes the cross sign across his body. The rest of the group follow in suit, making the signal of the cross towards me and renjun who just so happen to be sitting next to each other. I roll my eyes at their stupid actions and renjun snorts.
"Just eat you peasants," renjun says, exasperated.
They finally start to eat, each person making approval noises after shoving the food down their throats.
"So good," Mark says, and donghyuck nods vigorously in agreement, his mouth full.
"So," renjun starts, "what have you all been up too?"
And so the conversation starts, my friends and I laughing and talking and doing whatever stupid things boys in their early twenties do. And for that short time, we forget our worries and jobs and relationship problems, and just have fun with each other.
