Thirteen years ago
It was a warm day in Narnia. The sun shone brightly and though the heat seemed immense, a few clouds were scattered here and there.
The streets weren't to busy and a sense of peace and happiness lingered in the atmosphere. Everything seemed perfect, almost as if a celebration were to happen.Down by the docks, there was a young girl who goes by the name of Zale Drinnian and on this day she has turned five.
Watching her four older brothers chasing each other around the docks, she sat with her legs crossed and sighed almost wistfully. Her father, Lord Drinnian, looked past his four sons and cast a curious glance towards his youngest and only daughter. Worried that his daughter was upset on her special day, he abandons the work he was doing and walked towards her.
Sitting down beside her, Lord Drinnian looks towards his daughter and waited for her to notice him.
Snapping out of her dreamlike state, Zale slowly turns her head towards her fathers awaiting eyes.
"Father?" Her small high-pitched voice says.
"Is everything alright Zale? Are you enjoying your day?" He asked.
Turning her wondering eyes towards the great ship that stood afloat before her, she quietly nodded her head.
The Dawn Treader belongs to Lord Drinnian. It was passed down from his father to him when he came of age.
For the past few years, Drinnian had taken notice to his daughter's interest to the ship.Zale was not like the other girls her age. Instead of staying inside and learning the things that other girls her age learnt, she would rather run around with her brothers and tackle them to the ground. (Though none of them did so much as stumble backwards)
Her behaviour could have been because the five males in her life.
"Father? When will I be able to captain the Dawn Treader?"
Shocked by the question that Zale had asked, he regained his calm stature and prepared himself to answer her question.
"You see Zale-" He began. but before he could continue, Zale stared at him with her dark chocolate brown eyes. He knew that there was no escaping them. Sometimes she won't do it delibratley though it seemed like she would. Her eyes were her source of power, she could make anyone fall to their knees, begging for forgiveness for something they didn't even do. It was if she were staring into your soul, searching for any impurity that lied within you. So as Zale looked into her fathers eyes, silently pleading that he would agree to her captaining the ship.
"-I don't think-" He tried to continue.
She pouted.
"-That you're-"
lip quiver
"-going to do so at such a young age.'
"Of course I wouldn't, I am only five father. I still have so much to learn."
Drinnian smiled down at his daughter as a thought came to mind.
"You are absolutely right. You do still have so much to learn and you can continue learning alongside your brothers."
She smiled up at him as he said the words" And when your eighteenth birthday arrives, you'll be sailing around the oceans of Narnia with your brothers, with permission from your mother of course."
Zale gave a big toothy grin to her father to which he responded to with his own smile.
"Come on then, let's go speak to your mother about it." He said as he stood up reaching his hand towards Zale who took it eagerly. He called to his four sons for them all to head home.
"Do I get to use a sword?" Zale asked.
"Why don't we save that for another time."
