Chilling Nights

The evening was drawing to an end. The light swallowed up by the darkness until the morning. In the night when there was no light to see the changes that were being made. The night making them feel even more trapped as the walls of their prison move.

Minho's POV
The day was over, so I thought I would start to get ready to sleep. I did all the things one would do to get ready for sleep, and went to find a spot to lie down to get some rest.

That night was peculiarly quiet. I had no explanation for it. Since the greenie and the girl showed up things had been...out of place somehow. I still hadn't figured out what was up with that girl. And ever since the greenie showed up nothing has been normal at all. I was just lying here thinking about all the questions I had about the two. Teresa was definitely strange, there was just something wrong about that girl that I just couldn't shake. Thomas, he was just a little ahead of himself, and it seemed that he and that Teresa character were up to something.

I decided that maybe I should try to get some shut eye seeing as I have to run in the maze tomorrow. I started to drift off to sleep, hoping to dream of sugary foods, or whatever.

It worked for a while, too. Then it didn't because a ear splitting scream came from inside the building.

Newt's POV
I lie down, and hope that I don't get another bloody nightmare like I have for the past few days. They've just been getting worse and worse.

Before I sleep I like to take note of who's sleeping near me. There are a few boys to my right spreading from me to the wall. On my left is Minho and Alby. The rest of the people I can't really make out. I decide that the check is good enough, and go to sleep.

'Run. Run Newt. They're coming for you' the voice keeps saying. I follow the order. I can tell I'm in the maze, and I'm pretty sure I know the location.

'Climb Newt, you must climb. They're coming for you'

'Come on Newt just climb. It will be safe up there.'

I'm reluctant to follow, but I do. I don't know who is coming for me. I just keep climbing, climbing, climbing, and suddenly I stop. I don't want, but I can't move.

'Jump. Jump Newt. They'll never get you if you jump.'

I don't jump. I can't, there's no way. I just can't. I grip the vines tighter just in case.

'Newt jump now! There almost here.'

Again I tighten my grip, and wait for it to stop.

'NEWT JUMP NOW! THERE HERE!' I'm crying 'NEWT! JUMP! STOP BEING WEAK, and JUMP!'

The last word was so loud. I'm sobbing now. The voice won't shut up. It won't leave me alone. My grip on the vines becomes loose. I freak out and try to readjust my grip so it will be tighter. Then the voice comes again, but this time I obey it.

I fall. It's scary watching as the ground draws closer and there's nothing you can do to stop it. All you can do is just scream and cry and wait for your inevitable doom. The ground is there. I hit it, and let out the loudest scream yet.

I bolt straight up. My face wet with tears, and my throat scratchy with every scream that I let out. I notice people waking up, but I don't care. My mind is going to fast to think about other people. As my mind slows down a bit I can hear some one talking, but I can't make out what they're saying.

A person comes up by me. I don't know who it is. I can tell that they are trying to comfort me by rubbing a hand up and down my while telling me to breathe. By now my mind has slowed down enough, and I'm able to tell that the person is Minho. Hmm I would've never thought. And although my screaming has stopped, I'm still crying though.

"I'm sorry for waking everyone up." I whisper. My voice raspy.

"Ssh, it's ok. Are you ok?" Minho whispers back.

I shake my head, and I see his face melt.

"Can I have a hug?" I ask shyly.

He nods, and places his arms around me. I lean my head into Minho's chest. Still crying, and sniffling occasionally. Minho runs a hand through my hair, and hush's me every time I whimper.

Eventually we lie down. Minho still holds me while I keep my head on his chest. And I would be lying if I said that I didn't enjoy this. With one more whimper Minho gives my head a kiss, and that's the last thing I remember before falling asleep.

3rd person POV
Just like Newt, Minho would be lying if he said that he didn't enjoy holding Newt. The runner don't know where all that comforting stuff came from. It was almost like his instincts told him that he just had to protect Newt. The kiss came from nowhere, but it didn't really matter, right? It was just to calm him down.

The next day when Minho returned he questioned Newt about what all the screaming and crying was. Newt explained everything. From that day on Minho wouldn't let Newt sleep alone, and the nightmares became less of a problem to Newt over time.
