Peter's POV
There sat Tom, the five year old. Sitting in the middle of a market robbery, guns pointed at him as tears streamed down his face. Something snapped inside me and I began to try running in, but a pair of surprisingly strong arms held me back.
"Whoa, there. You can't go in there." The officer holding me back told me. I turned around to see he was an old man wearing shades. The badge he wore on his chest read 'Stan Lee'. (Rest in Peace, dear, dear Stan Lee. You will forever be in our hearts.)
"Please let me in. My little brother is in there!" I almost yelled, but the stares from the crowd kept me from raising my voice further. Officer Lee shook his head and pulled me to the side.
"You've got spunk, kid. Spunk is power in this world, but remember my words: With great power comes responsibility." He said with a bright smile.
I like this guy. Ah- Not the time to be making friends, no matter how cool he is.
I nodded in response to him and walked away from the crowd. His words echoed through my brain, repeating like a broken record.
I've got actual powers now. Maybe I can help Tom get out of there? But how do I get in?
Spotting an empty alleyway close by, it practically glowed in opportunity. Running into the alley, I made sure no one was around. After pulling up my hood and zipping up the hoodie, I began scaling the building the same way I had done with the tree. It was weirdly almost natural at this point.
Am I supposed to be adapting to this so fast? It feels almost like second nature already to be moving around like this. How?
Jumping from roof to roof, I wrapped my blue and red handkerchief around my head as a sort of mask. Don't want my face all over the news. Medusa would absolutely murder me. It's sad how I am not exaggerating.
Clearing my head of thoughts, I climbed into the air vents of the market Tom was in. Silently crawling through the tunnels, I managed to find my way pretty easily. Looking down at the crime from above, I spotted Tom in the group. Luckily, there was a small opening beside him.
Now just need a little distraction.
Opening the vent, I put one of the screws to the side before sliding the vent lid to the opposite side of the opening, so it wouldn't just swing underneath me and gain attention. Poking my head out of the opening, I decided to toss the screw to the far side of the store where none of the goons were standing. Putting as much strength as I could behind the throw, I managed to cause a medium sized crater in the floor where it landed.
This instantly gained their attention, making more than half of them run to the far end of the store. The remaining robbers were staring out the window to keep an eye on the cops, watching their every move and leaving the hostages without surveillance.
Now's my chance.
I hopped out of the vents, landing in a squat beside Tom. He was about to scream out, but I quickly covered his mouth. Putting a finger up to where my mouth was under the mask, I warned him and the other hostages to stay silent. They all nodded in fearful understanding as I knelt like they were. When the other robbers returned, I lowered my head to hide the mask I wore with my hood.
"What was it?" The robber closest to us asked.
"I'm not sure. It was a screw in a crater thingy. Dunno what caused it, so I say we wrap this up quickly." One of the others responded before turning his attention to me. "You! Lift up your hood, you punk."
I smirked under my mask and slowly lifted my hands up to bring them to the edges of my hood so it looked like I would obey their commands. However, without warning, I sprung into action. Jumping up to the ceiling, I knelt upside down from up there to gain all of their attention.
