Linda waited at the stop light while she headed home. She sighed and turned the radio up, trying to forget about the fight. But the song that came on was one of her and Danny's favorites. She sighed and thought about changing the station, but didn't because, even though she was still mad, she needed a happy song amidst the gloomy day.
Linda started cheering up just a little bit, but her happiness was short lived when she screamed. She looked behind her, then at the light. "It's still red, so it's their fault.." Linda got out of the car and looked at the guy who had run into her. He got out and started yelling at her.
"Look what you did to my car! How dare you ruin my car!"
"Me? Can't you see? The light is red. RED. As in stop!" Linda yelled back. "And you can afford to get your car fixed!"
"Yeah, right! Like you can't?"
"No, I can't, Mr. Fancy-Pants Lawyer!"
"How'd you know I'm a lawyer?"
"Cause you're my stinkin' ex-brother-in-law!"
Jack Boyle looked at the nurse. "Linda?"
"Uh, Yeah!"
"Hey," the police officers, who thankfully happened to be crushing that part of the city, got out of their car.
Linda looked at them with her arms crossed.
"Are you okay?" The male asked.
"I'm okay, Jamie. Just a little shook up, you know?"
"Yeah. Have you called it in?" Eddie asked as Jamie went to talk to the other guy.
"No, I was about to but you two showed up."
"You sure you're okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay."
"Regardless, Jamie's calling a bus anyway."
"Okay...."
"What about the other guy?"
"Jack Boyle? Screw him."
"You know him?"
"He's my ex-brother in law."
"Oh, that Jack Boyle..."
"Yeah."
*******
"What do we know about this guy anyways?" Baez asked as she and Danny drove through the city.
"We know he's a b!tch."
"Other than that."
"Uh... we know that...." Danny looked to his left, and voiced his thoughts, "that is my wife's car... hold on..."
"What?" Baez asked as he pulled over.
Danny got out of the car and saw his wife wrapped in a blanket, sitting on the edge of the ambulance. "Linda!"
She looked up at the sound of her name. "Danny!"
Danny ran to Linda, her blanket falling to the ground as she hugged her husband.
"Linda, I am sooo sorry!"
"I'm sorry, too, Danny."
They held each other tightly, not caring they were getting soaked.
"I love you, Linda Reagan. With all my heart. And nothing's going to change that."
The nurse pulled away from the detective a little bit so she could look him in the eyes. "And I love you, Danny Reagan. With my whole heart. Nothing in the world could tear me away from you."
Their lips met in love, sorrow, and forgiveness. And as they stood there, kissing each other, the rain let up and a rainbow appeared, sealing their truthful words.
