'What would Arthit think of this?' Kong stared at his handiwork with critical eyes. The fright he felt for the special surprise not being able to impress Arthit or worse, actually disappointing him. Could this really blow up in his face? It seemed that no one was giving him a way out anymore. Kong closed his eyes, hearing the front door close behind his lover. His husband(wife). Kong turned around and wasn't sure if he was supposed to loudly yell, 'surprise' or run to the closet.
But the person stepping through their bedroom door was definitely not Arthit.
"Who the hell are you?!" The stranger stopped in his tracks. Which would lead him straight to the bed, btw!
Some small stagger in his step and squinting his eyes, trying to focus his attention and obviously, the sober part of his brain, to realize into which situation he had just stepped.
"This is my apartment. Whare you?"
Kong watched at him dumbfounded.
This place was filled with his and Arthit's stuff, pictures.. well everything. How could this stranger say something this absurd?
It seemed that the stranger wasn't up for questioning how a total stranger got into 'his' apartment, nor why he himself 'lived' at that place, Kongpob had been calling home for the past 5 years. Because he suddenly fell past Kong, towards the bed and though good and kindhearted every other day. Kongpob had no inkling to help this man, who fell into his marriage bed and he let him fall clearly past it, onto the floor, where he stayed. Snoring loudly.
'Alas! Where the hell was Arthit?'
Now anyone else would have reacted either in a bad or a good way. But Kongpob took his jacket, neatly closing the apartment door. And left.
Kongpob entered the private, hidden, bedroom at the back of his office. He sat down in a chair beside the window. Even he himself didn't know what exactly was coursing through his head.
'How and when had he been distracted enough to not notice Arthit leasing their apartment to a stranger?'
"Was I really away for so long, for him to decide to leave?" It took only a few moments to push the button. Kong didn't want to admit it to himself, but he was a bit doubtful, as in what he would be hearing, when the call connected. At least he did not expect this...
Kong lowered the phone in his hand. This definitely made his usually calm and gentle face frown and develop deep lines of worry. What exactly was Arthit up to now?
Why was a French recorded voice answering, when he had called Arthit? In his slight understanding and experience with French, Kong understood enough of what he had heard. 'The number you are trying to reach is either switched off or out of service area.
He did understand it, but why did it come in French? Why was Arthit's phone in France? For the rest of the night Kongpob had no inkling of sleep nor did he wish it. All though he wouldn't think of the worst possible scenarios, Kong had a lot to think of.
It was clearly too early for this visit, as it was barely seven in the morning. But Kong had not been able to wait any longer. He walked into the house and found it all quiet. Maybe the kitchen was just too far away because, from past, Kong knew that breakfast was already being prepared and his father would be already up to look over the reports.
At that very moment, two very weird things occurred.
First, Kong's phone pinged. A message had arrived.
'There has been a transfer of 53'686'984,27baht from the account number ...' Kong's face probably showed his total and utter disbelief of the content of this particular message.
And then happened the second weird thing, making Kong absolutely speechless.
His mother walked through the door, hand in hand. With a total stranger, laughing madly, acting as a young girl, feeling all the fluttery feelings one would feel at the sight of her crush. And then totally unexpectant to Kong, she kissed him on his lips after which she laughed loudly until seeing Kong standing there.
"Kong!" She sounded in no way worried nor upset about getting caught. "When did you get back from your trip?"
Kong found no ability to open his mouth and say what he really thought. He walked past his mother and almost stumbled into his father's office. Seeing him sitting in his usual seat, not even lifting his serious eyebrows as he took in the 3 people upsetting his morning ritual of checking the reports his staff had sent him.
"Dad, what the hell is going on here? Where is Arthit? Who is this man?"
As his father leaned back in his chair, interlacing his hands on his chest, Kong felt like he was supposed to answer him, not the other way around. He couldn't figure out, what he had done wrong, but he was sure that the situation with Arthit had to be his fault. But how? What had he done? What was missing from this equation?
"What?" Why was his father still looking at him like this?
"So now you notice that something is wrong with how things are at your home?"
"Come on, don't mess with me now, dad. Pretend to be my father for once! Where is he?" Kong knew he had stepped over the line. His father wouldn't let go, would not leave this reciprocated.
"Before you go to him. Think. What have you been missing? Does only remembering important events make the other feel like he is important enough for you? How long were you away this time? How often have you been away this past year? Did you take over my company to forget how you were raised? How we, me and your mother, raised you? Raised both of you. Now get out and fix this before I really will start choosing between the two of you."
Kongpob stepped out of the house and couldn't think of what to do. He couldn't call up any of their friends. He did not need another scolding from them. If his father was right and he probably was. Then all of their friends would know about it and obviously would tell him all of their thoughts about it, in a clear manner. Also, in a very loud one, surely.
No, again his father was right, well like always. And he needed to think. He did something very wrong if Arthit saw a reason to put another person in their marriage bed, which Kong won't stand for, however big of a problem they have. Also, if he was not mistaken, Arthit had just purchased a house in France. By the cost, something awesome. It had been their dream, but Kong had always pushed it farther because of how busy he was. It seemed Arthit couldn't wait anymore. Kong just hoped he still would wait for him.
He had almost 20h's to fly, with two stops on the way and lot's of layover time too. And all the time would be to think, what exactly did he do wrong and how to fix it. Whatever he needed to do. Whatever he needed to let go.
One thing he would never give up. Arthit.
*song: Fate - Kyuhyun and Lee SunHee. This has always been such a beautiful and emotional song. I hope you all can take comfort and guidance from the words and the emotional melody. The words go well with my feelings, coming back to a story I did not plan to write anymore and trying to give some depth to a relationship, that mostly seemed lovely and was able to overcome all these obstacles...
*Somehow, I sensed that the characters, the story and the maybe even the author were all lacking depth and knowledge.. understanding? So I hope that I will make Kongpob think a bit and as this story is known for. A light-hearted romance and a good feeling :)
Thank you for reading my stories, giving me the strength to continue and all the comments and voting makes me incredibly happy. Thank you all!
