Natasha wasn't like the others.
She didn't trust as easily as the others.
She didn't laugh as much as the others.
She didn't have as much fun as the others.

She had closed off emotions.
Traumatising memories of the Red Room.
A blank, emotionless expression.
A cold and unforgiving heart.

But then she met Peter.
As soon as he stumbled into her life, red flags went off in her head.
Don't get attached.
You know what happens when you get attached.
Yet she couldn't seem to shake Peter off.
He was always there.
Slowly, Natasha Romanoff was beginning to enjoy his company.

"Hey Aunt Nat!"

Peter limped into her vision, his arm bent at an unnatural angle and a scrawny, dead-looking cat under his arm.

Almost instantly, Natasha had this overwhelming feeling of protection toward him. No one would hurt Peter and live to tell the tale. But she restricted herself.

He can look after himself.
You shouldn't care for him.
His pain shouldn't affect you.

"Hey Peter." She muttered, a hint of worry in her eyes.
"What happened to your arm?"

"Oh, that," he grinned sheepishly, "I was just stopping this break in at the ATM, and a robber sort of bent my arm backwards so now it is most definitely broken and I can't feel it anymore."

He trailed off at the end, before smiling wide and shoving the cat into her face with his good arm.

"On the bright side, look! He is adorable and fluffy and cute and loveable and adorable and I said that already and I love him so much and his name is Tiddles."

Nat observed the monstrosity before her. It looked like a humongous rat dragged through a sewage puddle before being pulled backwards through a hedge.
Obviously, she wasn't going to express these thoughts, as that would hurt Peter's feelings.

But Natasha, what do his feelings matter? He's just like the rest. He doesn't care, so you shouldn't care for him. You-

She shook her head quickly. Peter is the exception. He deserves the world and more.

Not thinking twice, she pulled him into a tight hug. Peter stiffened, before relaxing. His efforts were working! He's getting Nat to open up!

"The cat's cute, well done for stopping that robbery too."
She whispered.

"Now, who broke your arm? I just want to have a little chat with them."

A/N - sorry for falling off of the face of the earth! Here's my recipe for not updating:

1 teaspoon of homework
4 tablespoons of revision
1 litre of exams
A hint of panicking over said exams and my future
25 grams of crying and breakdowns
And
A few drops of writers' block

This should give you a nice, delicious mix of stress and no motivation to write!

Seriously though, I'm sorry for not updating. So if you do actually really like this book (why? There are better things than this crap to read) I apologise for the crappy one shot up above.
