This short story was not completely written by me, some of it was written by @possiblygwen and also by DiamondDust684, who both wrote like 99.99% of the second chapter. They are both cool, so you should follow them or something. I mean if you want. :)

I pause at my locker and dump my backpack on the grey tiles that cover the school. I bend over my lock, red hoodie ties swinging into my hands. My locker opens with a faint creaking noise, and I absentmindedly move aside all of the crap that has accumulated over time. I grope around for my science book, gazing at the pictures Scotch-taped to the back wall. One picture in particular. It's me and Jeremy one or two years ago at some video game tournament, all the way in Connecticut. Our smiles are huge and filled with colorful metal brackets. We look like giant nerds, I realize, laughing slightly under my breath.

My eyes shift down to my hands, which are apparently not capable of finding my science book without the help of my eyes. I look over all of my books, searching for a red, practically ripped to shreds textbook. It's not there I realize, starting to panic.

"Shit, it's not there!" I rummage frantically through all of the rubbish. I have a test today. A huge test, which I didn't bother studying for because for once in the whole semester, Mr. Sutton is letting us use our textbooks, and mine is sitting on my basement couch. I slam my locker shut and hold my glasses in one hand, running the other over my face.

I'm planning my funeral when a finger pokes the top of my head.

"Ow!" I squint up to see some tall dark haired blob apologizing profusely. I reposition my glasses on the bridge of my nose, "Oh, hey Jeremy."

"Hey, Michael! What's wrong? You kinda seem, um, upset I guess," he frowns uncertainly, which I use as an opportunity to notice just how pink his lips are. Not that that has anything to do with anyone.

"Oh, um, yeah," I force my eyes annoyingly high up to meet his, which are a beautiful grayish blue color, which is again not useful information, "Yeah, um, I just- I um, I left my textbook at home which is honestly so f*cking stupid of me, and so now I'm gonna fail, again, and my moms are gonna be really disappointed in me, again, and, um yeah. That's it," I shuffle my hands awkwardly, not sure why exactly I don't seem to possess the ability to talk like a normal human being.

"Oh, well I am literally just heading back from that test, so here, take it!" Jeremy practically shoves the book into my still fumbling hands. I stare at it for a few seconds, before exclaiming with relief.

"Oh my god, Jer thank you so much! I could kiss you right now!" I didn't mean to blurt out that last part. F*ck. So I kinda just laugh, admittedly very awkwardly.

"Ha! No problem! But no homo right?" he jokes back, grey eyes squinting from his smile. I laugh with him, pretending that it's just a normal thing to do, to just declare out loud the fact that you actually, really do want to kiss your best friend. But he doesn't need to know that. For him, it can just be an over-exaggeration, which shouldn't be hard for him to believe, based off of my history of being an over-dramatic child. At least there's something good that came out of that.

"Aw man, I was really hoping to engage in some romantic type deal right now, where I'm the damsel in distress and you're my knight in shining armor!" I exaggeratedly swoon into his chest, and he pushes me away laughing. "Some damsel in distress! Alas, my princess, I gotta go to calc now. Meet you after school?" I watch his incredibly long legs walk away from me backward, turning around only after I nod my assent. My heart aches in my chest, and my hands clench around his copy of our science book. He should know. He deserves to know. I decide right then and there that I'm going to tell him. I'm going to tell him that I'm extremely—

"GAYYYYYYY" Rich catcalls me as he runs by.

"Exactly" I mutter under my breath, swinging my backpack onto one of my shoulders, "exactly."

So um, that's the first chapter. It's really short, but then again, so is this entire story, so.
