Logging in the next day, I saw Leafa gazing at me with unreadable eyes. Sighing internally, I got my equipment ready.
"Alright, guys. We're going to be flying fast and hard. I want to be here," I pointed at the meeting location, "before nightfall. Everyone got that?"
Everyone nodded and we made way for the take-off spire, but along the way, we were stopped by a group of Sylphs, one of them being Sigurd, leader of the Sylph's military.
"Leafa."
I waved the others along as I stopped to watch what'll come down.
"Oh, uh, hello Sigurd."
"What's this I hear about you leaving the party? Is that true?"
"Well, yeah it is." They hadn't noticed me yet.
"Do you have any idea how much that's going to upset the other members?"
Other members? You mean you, right?
"You said it wouldn't be a problem if I joined only when I had the time. You also said I could quit whenever I wanted to!"
"Yes, I know what I said, but you've been with us for a while now and everyone knows you. If you leave us, it's going to damage the reputation of the party!"
Leafa couldn't think of something to say back, so I stepped in.
"Party members are not items." My talking broke my invisibility spell and I noticed the tagged debuff pop up for a split second. Trying to track us, huh?
"E-eagle..." Leafa looked thankful.
"What did you say?"
I walked right up to him, unfazed by our height difference. "Party members aren't items, so don't expect for them to be on call for you. They're not your armor, they're not your sword and they sure as hell aren't your accessories."
"You son of a-!" I watched as he partly drew his blade. "I bet that big mouth of yours got you thrown out of your own territory!"
I smirked. "It actually got me a pretty important task."
"And what is that? Annoying the Spriggan's enemies?"
"Nope. I'm a courier of sorts." I noticed a tiny red bat hovering in the doorway. Salamanders?
"Grrr! Let's see what you've got, you piece of Spriggan-!"
I had already disarmed him and was twirling his blade between my fingers. "Hmm, light, dull edges. Alright reach."
"What?!" Everyone around me was shocked at my show of power.
"Not my type." I tossed it back and he caught it.
Sigurd had a moment of hesitation and I preyed on it.
"What? Afraid of damaging your reputation? Weren't you just saying I was a piece of Spriggan trash, though? So why don't you strike?" I noticed the bat had backed off.
Sigurd took a deep breath and sheathed his sword. "Once you cross our border, you better run and hide, Leafa. I never expected you to betray me like this, never. But you'll regret it soon enough."
"She won't."
"Huh?" All eyes were on me.
"I know about you, Sigurd. You feed off power. Not just high stats and gear, but power over the land, over the people. And you know what?"
Sigurd had turned to face me. "Hmm?"
I drew a blade at incomprehensible speeds and put it to his neck. "I despise bastards like you." There was a long moment of silence before Sigurd walked off. "... Let's go, Leafa."
