waking up the next morning felt like trying to inhale underwater. the air was thick, and nobody dared speak about the elephant in the room.
the tension in the kitchen had taken a full 180° from the morning only 24 hours ago. chan, instead of laughing and making and making each member coffee, had to excuse himself to the bathroom 5 minutes after all nine of the members had arrived in the kitchen.
you think he'd try more to hide his tears when he walked out 10 minutes later.
no eye contact was made. all of a sudden, the floor was the most intriguing area of the entire dorm.
the silence lasted for what seemed like eternity. it was almost deafening how quiet it was. within the hour, minho had made his way out of his kitchen and headed to his bedroom.
the suitcase on his bed gave jisung the gist of what his intentions were.
their room had never felt so suffocating. nights spent laughing together and entangled on their beds were overshadowed by the present loneliness filling their souls.
despite being surrounded by eight friends he loved dearly, minho had never felt so alone. not one of his members (if he could even still call them that) had spoken the entire morning. he hated the awkward silence that engulfed their entire friendship.
he wouldn't be leaving the dorm until the following day, but living through today knowing it would be his last with his best friends hurt more than anything he'd ever felt before.
minho had barely made a dent in his packing before he couldn't take it anymore. sobs shook his entire body, as he felt jisung take him into his arms and attempt to calm him down. the air felt like fire, and everything hurt. nothing would ever make it feel okay again. sharp inhales cut like knives through his lungs, and breathing had never been so difficult.
nothing would ever make it feel okay again.
once the shaking had been lulled and breathing no longer set his lungs on fire, he was left a mess cuddled into his roommates arms.
"do you really think this is it?" minho asked jisung, knowing the answer.
"of course not. we will do everything we possibly can to get you back, and we will succeed," jisung tried his hardest to convince himself with his words, but he was unsure. is this really it? is minho really leaving? really?
minho knew that jisung wasn't sure, but he wasn't mad at him for it. there was no doubt in minho's mind that today was the last day.
and he'd be damned if he spent it all crying.
"EVERYONE GET IN HERE!"
shocked at the sudden change of volume, every other member rushed into the living room where minho and jisung now stood.
"today is my last day here, and i refuse to spend it sadly. get your shit together, and let's go!"
minho's new found energy had lifted the spirits of everyone else (to an extent).
within five minutes, everyone was dressed and reaching done in their daily morning routines. and within another five, all nine members were stood back in the living room, ready to have a ball.
they headed out to the streets of seoul, smiles now framing their faces. for the next 24 hours, they'd push aside all internal worries and stress. minho's final day was going to be fantastic, and that was that.
××
walking all day had tired the boys out. they left nearly 14 hours ago, and had been walking since. but, they accomplished their goal. minho's final day was fantastic. not once were they sad all day. at least while they were outside of the dorm, that was.
