"You're ready" Wren states, stepping backwards and admiring her masterpiece. She dressed me in a short red dress and black heels. I protested for almost two hours to wear my Vans, but she wouldn't budge. She simply stated, "This is your first highschool party, therefore I will not let you walk out of this house in Vans, end of discussion." After that, I knew arguing would be a waste of my time, and hers.
I huffed as she did whatever to my hair. Wren was the complete opposite of me. She was beautiful, out-going, confident, and most importantly, She knew how to have fun. While I, my idea of fun is studying and making flashcards. I am in no way confident, I don't even remember the last time I answered a question in class. I'm boring, but I've never had a problem."I'm done, let's go. We're going to be late." I just huffed and grabbed my phone off the table and checked myself in the mirror one last time. I let out a big breath before walking downstairs. I walk into the kitchen to tell my mother goodbye.
"Mom, Wren and I are going out. I'll be home before 12. If anything changes, I'll text you." She nods and waves me off. I notice the phone held against her ear. I smile and walk outside. I find Wren already in the driver's seat with the car started. I hop in next to her and she pulls away to wherever Penny's house is.
As we get closer, I start getting nervous. I feel my palms getting sweaty and my mind starts coming up with worse-case scenarios about tonight. I push away the thoughts as the car pulls up in front of a house. Wren smiles at me and we both climb out of her car.
I can already hear the blasting music from inside. There are red cups and people scattered across the front lawn. What have I gotten myself into? We walk up the front steps to the open front door."Are you sure that you're okay being here?" Wren asks before we step into the house. I nod and say, "I'm fine. I think I want a drink."
Her eyes widen in surprise. "What? I just thought since this is my first high school party, I might as well treat it as such. Let's go inside" I respond to her surprise. I grab her hand and drag her inside. The stench of alcohol and sweat invades my nose and makes it scrunch up. Is this what parties smell like? Who can stand this? Me and Wren make our way to the kitchen in hopes of finding the drinks. To our luck, we find all sorts of alcohol on the counter, surrounded by cups and buckets of ice. Cringing at the drunk people surrounding us, I grabbed a cup and followed Wren, filling it with Vodka and cherry flavoring as she did.
Party music blasting, I took a sip. It wasn't that bad. "Your first sip of alcohol!" Wren shouted. I laughed at her and continued drinking.I finished it pretty quickly, I poured myself another. Wren eyed me as I drank the second as fast as the first.
I reached to pour the third when Wren grabbed my first. "Maybe pace yourself. This is your first time drinking" She reminds me. She's right. What has come over me? Yesterday, I would have never have even thought of alcohol, today I'm chugging it like my life depends on it. What the fuck?"Just one more and I'll stop for a while" I said, grabbing the Vodka. She smiled nervously.
'Lucid Dreams' started playing and Wren dragged me into the middle of people dancing. She gestured for me to start dancing. I started moving in sync with those around me, trying not to spill my drink. I can feel the Vodka starting to take effect on me. I feel heat radiating off me, my dance moves getting sloppy. When the song finished, we moved out of the crowd and stood against a wall, sipping on the remainder of my drink since I can't get another for a while.
I spotted a blonde walking straight towards us. She looked familiar but I couldn't place a name with the face. She smiled as she approached us."Hey Wren. I'm gathering a small group to play Truth or Dare in the backyard. Do you and your friend want to play? It's just me, you two, and my friend group" The girl asked Wren.
Wren nodded, grabbing my hand, dragging me outside. The air outside was thinner and easier to breathe, the stench of alcohol was gone. I could still hear the music inside, a Khalid song started playing. Me, Wren, and the other girl kept walking until we reached a firepit. Sitting around were a couple of people I remembered from school. They were all popular and all hung out around each other. My eyes finally settled on someone. He looked familiar but my mind was fuzzy from the three drinks I downed. He was sitting with some redhead in his lap, sharing a cigarette. Who's smokes in high school?
"Before we start, everyone has to take a shot!" The perky blonde shouted. I nodded and so did Wren.
After everyone, except the cigarette boy, took their shots, the game started. I was getting nervous mostly because I didn't know any of these people, but Wren did, which was weird, but the one thing setting me off the most was the familiar boy sitting across from me. He was staring at me, making me shift in my seat. I could feel his gaze on me. He whispered something into the redheads ear and she giggled. I watched as she attached her lips to his. Why am I watching this?
I turned my attention to the first round of the game."Wren, truth or dare?" The blonde, whose name I learned was Claire asked. Wren chose truth, lame.
"Is it true you went skinny dipping last weekend?" The girl asked. Wren laughed and nodded, not being to form a coherent sentence. What? Why didn't I didn't I know about this? My thoughts got distracted by Wren asking me something."Truth or Dare, Oakley?" She asked me. "Dare" I replied, the Vodka making me feel brave. She smirked and nodded. She thought about it for a minute.
"I dare you to kiss Carter" Wren spoke, a smile taking over her features. Huh? I couldn't have heard her correctly. That's when it clicked. The boy across from me.
His head perked up at the mention of his name. His eyes flicked around till he settled back on me. He shook the redhead off him and leaned towards me.
"You guys have me kissing the most boring person at this party?" Carter retorts. He is so rude. I never did anything to him.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" He asked, smirking at me.My subconscious was screaming at me to say no, run away. The alcohol quickly shut her up. I was going to make the worst decision of my life.
I leaned up and pressed my lips to his, hearing Wren gasp. Carter's hand found it's way to the back of my neck. He bit my lower lip, I granted him entrance inside. As soon as I did, his tounge dominated mine. His mouth tasted like smoke and what I think is mint.
He pulls away too quickly. I missed the feeling of his mouth on mine. My mind is reeling from the kiss.
Oh shit, I just kissed Carter Riley. My eyes met his and his face was expressionless. This was the boy who slept with girls just for fun, and he just kissed me. It's not my first kiss but damn it was my first good kiss. My ex-boyfriend Tyler was too scared to do anything other than a peck on the lips. I guess that's why we broke up, he was too boring.
He removed his hand from my thigh and sat back down. He quickly turned his attention away from me. Nobody will remember this in the morning, right. I know I didn't want to.
After another round, Carter stood up and left with his red head. I have a pretty good idea what they're doing.
My drunk mind is sort of jealous.Ahhh, another chapter tonight! It took me and hour and 30 minutes to write this one. I'm really putting in the dedication to this story. Please comment what you would like to see in this book. Well, Later.
