Jane's Diary Part 4 (Final)

Audio Recording

Date: 6/21

"Um, the soldiers told me to speak in this microphone for something called an archive, and they told me to talk about what happened in my point of view."

(Breathes)

"Oh my gosh."

"This has been so crazy. We're safe now, but so many things happened in the last month or so.

We are in a place called Paradise Point, and it's this huge base with walls of barbed wire. We have two layers of that, and soldiers walk in between every day."

"I'm gonna start from Wednesday, a few weeks ago."

"At night, I made sure Mom and Dad were asleep, at around 11 PM, then I biked to Everett, then headed north to where Laura's old farm was."

"I was biking on the side of the road, the farm was in view, but then all of a sudden this huge explosion came out from the farm. Or what used to be the farm. It's some military base now, well not anymore after the zombies overran it, but back then it was still standing."

"I could see smoke coming out, and hear people shouting and gunshots as well. I ditched my bike and ran back down and hid behind some bushes. There were screams... and, um, a couple of minutes later, some soldiers appeared at the entrance, and they were dragging bodies. Two stayed there while the rest went back into the walled off area. There was so much fire now that I couldn't really see much."

"Then these huge trucks started to show up, and a bunch of other soldiers got out and started loading them up with the bodies, while others started shouting to each other and running into the base with their guns out. More gunfire started, and more trucks kept arriving"

"Then, a group of soldiers looking more professional arrived from helicopters and these tanks. Three stayed outside, and the rest went into the smoke and that was all, for hours until there was a huge roaring sound and more screaming and fighting"

"Um, I ran home after that. The next day, school was canceled, and for some reason nobody was outside. Mom and Dad wouldn't let me go outside either. It was pretty quiet"

"The news channels were broadcasting some emergency, but they made me go upstairs while they watched"

"In the afternoon, they told me to start packing and that we were going somewhere for a while. They seemed pretty urgent... oh god if only I knew"

(Breathes)

"So I packed some important things, and Mom gave me a phone for some reason and told me how to use it. Dad told me to go to bed, but I snuck down and saw them loading the car"

"There was some screaming that night, but I locked my door and pulled up the blankets and fell asleep somehow"

(Sobs)

"When I woke up, it was in the morning... there was a pounding sound coming from the garage door, and when I got to the garage...the door was locked but I could hear growls from the other side... oh god there was blood on the floor... I got a tennis racket and locked all the doors... then I noticed the TV had been left on"

"T-there was a freaked out reporter talking about an attack on Prince Edward Island, and how an army of zombies had spread from the bridge after a group of soldiers got killed defending it, and how there was some accident at Russia, Germany, something about Hawaii shutting down flights... I was freaked out"

"Finally, she brought up an accident in Washington, and how there were so many people evacuating there that got slaughtered by zombies yesterday, when the horde reached the traffic"

"They showed people getting out of their cars and running, and just this huge wave of gray washing over them"

"It was then I looked outside... and"

(Sob/Cough)

"There were just zombies around the streets everywhere... and I didn't want to know where Mom and Dad went afterward. I didn't know what to do. I just kept watching the news broadcast"

"President Drump was sending national emergencies that kept interrupting the broadcast, something on Twitter about 'Building a wall around Washington D.C. and making the #zombies pay for it'. It made no sense to me, but eventually he Tweeted 'Air Force one is here, #staysafeyall!'"

"Then the broadcast was back and they talked about safe zones being set up in the Midwest, where the infection was slowed because of mountains and nothing to infect there, and also the military there would eventually have to evacuate everyone North to Canada, as the zombies would close in from both sides"

"At around noon, the power went out. It was kind of quiet and I was eating when gunfire started and I could hear people shouting. I took a peek outside and... there were actual humans, not just soldiers, but just normal people, they were shooting down the zombies and busting into houses and rescuing people!"

"I opened my door and ran out, but a guy in the distance told me to get back in in a panicked voice, so I did. They broke in from the garage, and I heard a bunch of gunshots before they told me it was safe to come out again"

(Crying)

"Mom and Dad were dead, along with a third zombie. They said they were sorry, but that we had to get going fast so I went along with what they said"

"It was kind of a blur from there, but I remember sitting in this truck with a bunch of other people who looked tired, and seeing tanks and a lot of soldiers guarding some roads and highways, there were more as we drove closer to our destination"

"We arrived at a base with a bunch of blue tents and normal people from town. I found some friends I knew and they told me about how how Laura's farm was a secret laboratory and that the army got attacked from zombies in the lab, and how we were safe now"

"The zombies turn you when they kill you, according to them. If you get bit, you're not dead so you won't turn into one, but when you die something happens that brings you back as one of them"

"There's also a group, called the "Coalition". It looks like they're the ones saving everyone right now, and some of our townspeople are joining them. I wouldn't mind being a medic, personally. I like saving lives"

"This all seems like a movie, but it's so real. The beds are okay, and the food is all packed but it's not that bad after a few weeks. Everything's happening so fast, I don't think I can keep track of it anymore. I think they're making everyone do one of these recordings too"

"A scary thing is that everyday people get on helicopters, and armored trucks and we don't see them again. The soldiers say that they're going to somewhere safe, and how eventually we have to go too because this place is only temporary"

(Sniff)

"Miss Zieger? Everything okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine"

"Anyway, whatever happens, whoever dies, I'll remember them. Mom, Dad, I love you. That's all for now I guess. Have a nice day, whoever gets this message. We are Unturned."
