TODAY was the day where the once children of the umbrella academy were going to be together after several years apart. 'who knew the death of a satanic bastard of a father would be the thing to bring us back together' rose thought as she threw on a short black skirt and black long sleeve shirt with a collar, tucking it into her skirt. she stops for a second as she catches a glance of herself in the mirror. small dark bags have gathered under her dark brown eyes from lack of sleep and light freckles have appeared nose and cheeks from being in the sun, gardening. she sighs and bends down to zip her black heels up. 'i doubt there will be a proper funeral knowing my family but just for safe measure' she thought, lightly chuckling at the thought of her dysfunctional family.
as rose walks down the stairs, heels clicking on the floor with every step, to the grand entrance to be met with a much older allison, diego, luther, klaus and vanya, gathered in the large open living room. "well, well, well. look what the ghost of our dead father dragged in " she says whilst slowly walking into the area. rose stops at the doorway, taking in the sight of her five siblings all grown up "a family meeting without me? wow. low blow." she mutters sarcastically "rose, still an asshole i see" diego, the young man with a scar on the side of his head, says quietly "rose, my beautiful, beautiful sister" allison, the woman wearing what looks like expensive clothing, says as she stands up and gives the young girl a hug, both pulling away from the hug softly as rose takes in the look of her sister "look at you, i am so proud" she says with a smile creeping onto her face, allison putting a hand over her heart with a smile. rose lets out a small sigh and looks over at her other three siblings "luther, the moon really did give you a nice breath of life didn't it" she jokes looking at him, he shakes his head and grunts. "vanya, i've missed you so much" rose says as she walks over to her to give her a small hug "i really liked your book. i especially liked the way you said my killing was 'merciless and cold'" rose whispers in her ear harshly, emphasising the words merciless and cold, she soon pulls away from the cold hug, the look of shock and sadness on vanya's face. rose quickly walks over to klaus, a scrappy young man, placing a kiss on his cheek and inhaling his scent "wow, nice aftershave is that, marijuana i smell?" klaus looks back on his sister with a sarcastic smirk " you would know wouldn't you greeny" he jokes as rose sticks her tongue out at him.
"well, what are we discussing?" rose asks, walking over to sit down next to vanya on the old sofa. a slightly awkward silence present as luther slowly stood up "um, so i figured we could have some sort of memorial service in the courtyard at sundown. say a few words, just at dad's favourite spot." rose looks at the large man with confusion, "dad had a favourite spot?" allison asks "yeah, you know under the oak tree." rose shakes her head in a dismissive manner "we used to sit out there all the time. none of you ever did that?" luther asserts "well, luther, i hate to say it but, dad didn't love the rest of us as much as you" rose claims with a smirk on her face "will there be refreshments?" klaus questions, breaking the tension in the air. "tea? scones? cucumber sandwiches are always a winner" rose lets out a slight chuckle as he sits down next to her with a cigarette and alcoholic beverage in hand. "what? no. and put that out. dad didn't allow smoking in here." luther argues as rose rolls her eyes.
"is that my skirt?" allison points out "what? oh yeah, this. i found it in your room. it's a little dated, i know, but it's very breathey on the bits." he says whilst standing up and showing it off "well i think it flatters your figure very much" rose defends, pointing at the skirt and his body. "listen up. still some important things that we need to discuss, all right?" luther exclaims with slight frustration in his voice, rose raising her hands up in defeat. "like what?" diego asks "like the way he died" "and here we go" diego interrupts. "i don't understand. i thought they said it was a heart attack." rose looks towards vanya and then to luther "yeah, according to the coroner" rose turns back to vanya "well, wouldn't they know?" back to luther, "theoretically" rose shakes her head and scoffs "theoretically?" allison asks "i'm just saying, at the very least, something happened" luther replies "the last time i talked to dad, he sounded strange" "oh, quelle surprise" klaus gurgles whilst having a concoction of alcohol in his mouth. rose slaps his arm playfully and stands up, walking towards the bar.
"strange how?" allison asks "he sounded on edge. told me i should be careful who to trust" rose unscrews the cap to the bottle of white rum pouring a generous amount into a martini glass "well the last time dad spoke to me he called me a 'lazy good for nothing' then died. so, what's your point exactly?" everyone in the room turns to rose, as the words came out of her mouth with anger. "since when did you drink?" diego asks "since i realised that i'm a powerless thirty-year-old in a teenagers body" rose replies smugly as diego looks back at the fire in shame "anyway he must have known something was going to happen" luther replies, everyone turning back around to face him as rose grabs the lime juice.
"look, i know you dont like to do it. but i need you to talk to dad" luther says as klaus scoffs, "i can't just call dad in the afterlife and be like 'dad could you stop playing tennis with hitler for a moment and take a quick call" rose laughs at his remark " willkommen in der holle" she says quietly to herself as she walks back to her spot, daiquiri in hand and sits back down. "since when? that's your thing" luther argues "i'm not in the right frame of mind" he replies "you're high" allison says "definitely high" rose adds "yeah! yeah!" klaus agrees "well sober up, this is important," luther says, frustration laced in his voice. "then there's the issue of the missing monocle", 'christ when will it end' rose thinks, crossing her legs on the couch and taking a sip of daiquiri. "who gives a shit about a stupid monocle?" diego asks "exactly" luther adds "it's worthless. so whoever took it, i think it was personal. someone close to him. someone with a grudge."
"are you fucking kidding me?" rose asks with anger "you think one of us took his monocle. his stupid fucking monocle." she watches as luther shakes his head, rose standing up from her spot "hang on a minute. there's something more than that. you think one of us killed dad?" rose questions intimidating him, watching as he grunts. "oh my god. it was a nice family reunion but that's enough for me. nice to see you all after what? six years? thanks for leaving me here on my own by the way. shows the true hargreeves family love that is ever so famous." rose turns to her siblings and walks out of the living room towards her room, taking a large sip of her cocktail once reaching it and closing the door with a slam.
