ROSE and five stand in the lobby of meritech, a prosthetics producer, five holding a prosthetic eyeball of a complete stranger, a stranger who was going to kill everyone on the planet. they waited around the lab for a chance to find out whose empty eye socket it had belonged to, looking around at the very much minimalistic place.

"uh, can i help you?", rose and five turn around to be met with a man in a lab coat. they walk towards the man as five holds the eye out for him to see. "i need to know who this belongs to." five states and rose relaxes her stance, crossing her arms. "where did you get that?" the man asks, looking at the prosthetic intently, "what do you care?" five rudely replies as the meritech employee looks at him strangely, rose coughing at five in warning. "i... i found it... at a playground actually." five lies with ease "uh, must have just" rose clicks her tongue "...popped out" five continues with an innocent smile on his face as the man nods.

"we wanna return it to its rightful owner." he adds, placing his arm on rose's shoulder "wouldn't want a man walking around eyeless" rose chuckles, an awkward silence proceeding with her words. "oh, what a thoughtful young man" the lady at the lobby desk interrupts, earning a burning stare from rose. five takes his arm of rose's shoulder and turns towards the woman "yeah. look up the name for me, will ya?" he requests politely, his reasoning a lot deeper than just a good deed.

"uh, i'm sorry, but patient records are strictly confidential. that means i can't tell you-" "yeah, i know what it means." five interrupts the man, his patience thinning with every word. "but i'll tell you what i can do. i will take the eye off your hands and return it to the owner. i'm sure he or she will be very grateful, so if i can just-" the man advises, reaching his hand out for the eye "yeah, you're not touching this eye." five defends with an angry tone. "now, you listen here, young man-" five grabs ahold of the man's lab coat and pulls him close to his face in an irritated manner, rose smirking at his response.

"no! you listen to me, asshole. i've come a long way for this, through some shit your pea brain couldn't even comprehend, so just give me the information i need, and i'll be on my merry way. and if you call me 'young man' one more time, i'm gonna put your head through that damn wall." five spits at the man, who seemed quite terrified. "oh, dear" the woman at the desk mutters, "call security" the man whispers softly to her. rose walks her way over to the desk and grabs a pair of scissors out of the pencil pot behind the woman's desk. the receptionist quickly dials the number, picking up the phone. rose cuts the wire connecting the phone before anyone could pick up. "whoops" she whispers, dropping the scissors down on the desk with a clank. five smirks maliciously, pushing the man away from his grasp and walks out fuming, rose following hot on his trails.

"well didn't that just go swimmingly" rose sarcastically grumbles as five pushes the front doors of meritech open with rage, storming through them. "hey, it's fine. we just need t-" "rose what we need is to stop the end of the world. and now i'm realising that there is no way. the future is inevitable anyway" he shouts at the girl, sitting down on the steps just outside the lab. rose sits down next to him slowly, trying not to make any sudden movements as that will just set him off even more. "well. i was going to say that maybe we need someone that doesn't look like a teenager going through puberty, someone who looks like an adult maybe. so then the dipshits will take it seriously?" she sighs, looking at five softly, as he slowly begins to calm down. "you always have a way of looking at things on the bright side, don't ya plant girl?" he mutters, looking back at the girl who was giving off a small grin. "come on then, the world won't save itself will it?" she declares, standing up and reaching her hand out to help him up. five sighs, taking rose's hand and standing up as they begin walking back to their childhood home.

"who do you think should be our adult supervision?" five asks rose, focusing on the path ahead of him, "well, who is the one sibling we know who will do anything for money?" she responds, looking at the boy "klaus." he replies, turning to see her nod her head. "twenty dollars should keep him content" she adds, turning back to the path, looking at the luscious green trees, framing the sidewalk.

five opens the front door of the sullen umbrella academy, holding it open as rose walks through, her muttering a 'thanks' as she goes inside. slowly walking inside the front entrance, they instantly notice klaus, smoking a cigarette on the sofa, speaking to the armchair opposite him.

"hey klaus" rose catches his attention as he hastily stands up from his spot, "ah, my favourite two teenagers" he states, spreading his arms outwards for a hug, but only earning a grimace from the two. "look, do you want to earn twenty dollars or not?" five asks angrily, "oh really? i would love twenty bucks around about" he checks his wrist, pretending that a watch was there "now" he adds, looking at the pair. five and rose share a disapproving look, sighing and looking back at the man. "just put on something that looks at least semi-professional and come with us for a while. please just don't ask questions" rose elaborates, klaus giving them a salute and stumbling upstairs to change.
