Fortunately for Han, the Empire force's attention seemed to be focused on the small group of rebels attempting to fight back. Sure, the falcon was recognizable. But it wasn't painted with rebellion emblems or anything like that. For the most part, it didn't seem like anyone even took notice of their leaving. Han did his best to skirt around the edge of what appeared to be the future site of the main battle that would take place. Luke quickly noticed this.
"Hey Han? Where are we going?"
Han rolled his eyes. The kid definitely had moxie. He was constantly rushing into fights without a second thought. Without even worrying for his own well being. Still, Han was no stranger to the value of picking one's battles.
"We're getting our asses as far from here as possible. That's where."
A feeling of tension and frustration hung in the air for a moment as Luke processed this.
Then, it began.
"Han that's not fair! We need to stand our ground and fight!"
Han gritted his teeth and tried to take deep breaths. Ever since he'd met Luke, he was always trying to get them killed.
"Kid. Just trust me on this. We don't stand a chance if we try to stay and fight. Our main concern needs to be the safety of ourselves and the falcon!"
"Since when were you ever scared of anything?!" Luke exclaimed, now abandoning the turret to approach Han in the cockpit.
"Shit." The falcon's path wavered slightly as Han turned to see Luke behind him.
"Luke, get back to the turret!"
"Why? We obviously don't need it if all we're gonna do is run away like cowards!"
"Fuck" Han muttered angrily as he quickly flipped the ship into autopilot and stood up.
"Listen here kid. I'm the pilot of this ship. I say when we stay and when we go. And right now I'm telling you to get your ass back to the turret!"
Suddenly, the falcon jolted, nearly knocking both men off their feet.
Han leaned forward to see what was going.
"We've got company."
Luke leaned forward with a puzzled look on his face, trying to understand what Han was talking about.
It appeared that they'd been rammed up against by an imperial ship. It was nothing huge and appeared to only be piloted by one person, but it was still big enough to cause a significant amount of damage should its attack on the falcon continue.
Han guessed it was some kind of perimeter control set up by the empire to make sure that no one escaped unscathed. Smart tactic. Han almost had to give them credit. After the attack, not only would the rebel alliance be scattered, they'd be in sorry need of ship repairs as well.
And here they were with an unmanned turret.
"Luke..."
Without a word, the younger man nodded and ran to take his place in the turret. Han did the same in the cockpit and switched the ship out of autopilot mode.
The imperial ship knocked against them once more, but this time, they were ready.
Luke swung around in the turret and, focusing his mind, began to blast at the enemy ship with everything he had.
With the millennium falcon's canons, the ship went down fairly easily.
By the time Hyperdrive was ready to be engaged, it was already veering away and preparing for landing.
Luke quickly climbed out of the turret and strapped himself into the copilot seat next to Han, trying his best to not make eye contact. He may have cooperated for their survival, but he still wasn't thrilled with Han's course of action.
Wordlessly, Han engaged hyperdrive and the ship took off at lightspeed. Luke don't know where the smuggler planned on taking them but he knew that wherever it was, things were bound to get a bit awkward.
