The slow sway of the boat was calming on your nerves after being in the Trick Tower for so long. Not to mention the fresh air that was clearing out your senses; it was really nice. The boat ride, being back together with your friends, the warm glow of the sun on your skin, it was all peaceful despite the palpable tension you could sense coming off the majority of the people around you.
You looked around at your pals in front of you. It had been a good while since you guys had left for Zevil Island so you were able to catch up on what happened on their end and you shared the story of what happened on your end in the Trick Tower. They were all definitely shocked when they heard you were with Hisoka for 72 hours but you told them you both worked together well enough to pass and not hurt each other. With that, any tension the group of you all had was gone as you guys continued to crack jokes about the last phase. It was something you all needed.
With 30 minutes left until reaching the shore of Zevil Island, you could tell your group of friends was regaining their tension. It was time to start getting serious. Eventually, Kurapika got up and left the group to be by himself for the remainder of the time. He wanted to start thinking about his approach. This triggered Leorio to do the same. Now, it was just you and the boys. You guys sat for a little while in quiet contemplation before Killua spoke up.
"So, what numbers did you two draw?"
"How about you?" Gon asked back.
"Secret," was Killua's quick reply.
You looked between the two boys. You couldn't really tell if they were nervous about the upcoming phase. That was until they both suddenly laughed.
"Don't worry. Neither of you are my target," Killua said with a playful smile.
"And my target isn't you two either," Gon replied.
"Yeah, same for me!" you added.
Killua looked off to the side with his chin resting on his hand. He glanced back in your direction and then over to Gon before asking if you guys wanted to all show numbers at the same time.
"Okay!" Gon replied with his cheerful and carefree smile. That boy was really just a ray of sunshine and you were very happy to have met him on this journey.
"Ready, and..."
All three of you pulled out your numbers to show off. You saw that Gon had 44 and Killua had 199. Wait, Gon had 44? That was...
Killua voiced you concerns before you even had the chance. "#44 is..."
"Hisoka..." you finished his statement in shock.
"You have really bad luck Gon."
"You think so?" Gon asked, still seemingly trying to keep up his cheerful atmosphere.
You really were nervous for the boy. You had seen some of Hisoka's skills up close and personal and you could still tell the man had plenty more tricks up his sleeve. The two were so far apart in pure strength, it was kind of terrifying for you but you had to have faith in Gon. He's made it this far at such a young age so he must have the drive to make it to the next phase.
"Who's #199?" Gon asked, breaking your train of thought. You looked up at the boys, you definitely knew that number but it was too hard to pin a face to it.
"You don't know either?" Killua asked, directing his attention at you.
"Mmm, yeah, I'm not sure."
"Ah, I didn't bother to memorize everyone's numbers. After the initial explanation, I started checking tags, but everyone had already removed them. That's so lame..."
