THE TALK

I told you I was home for the vacation right?,a lot of events unfolded right in front of me and I had no power to stop them.
"Toni ooo" mummy called incessantly from the living room downstairs. I grumbly stood up from my bed,went downstairs in a sluggish motion. I wasn't prepared for what was coming.
Dad was seated looking uneasy and tensed. Balls of sweats streaming down his black already aging face through his nicely tapered moustache, funnily the air conditioner was on. I had never see him that way. I was beginning to wonder. Mummy started chanting my panagerics. And she only does that if she needs special favours.
I  was ushered to set in between them,"Honey, talk to her, she'll understand you better" my father said. I rolled my eyes like "WTF is going on here?. Mother began by saying,"Toni,I know you know people fall in love in different ways and places,who knows yours might just be around the corner. I rolled my eyes and adjusted stealthily,"Mama I am in no mood for this lecture,I know where you are heading, thanks. Can I please leave?," I said.
She looked at me pitifully and said almost in tears "your father is in debt,the company will soon go down,I borrowed him all my savings thinking he and his  team would be able to win the contract but they failed. Instead of  losing the money forever he was given a condition which he signed to, that one his daughters must marry the only son of the business tycoon,hmmm....","and I am the only child of yours that is single,OMG!!!! forced marriage!!! Dad what were you thinking of?? I said and fainted.
               Few moments later
I found myself surrounded my parents and the house workers hovering over me,I had just fainted. I stood up embarrassed,went straight to my room without speaking a word to anyone. I was still in shock.
Two days has past since I came out of my room,I was very hungry,my head felt dizzy,I had been crying the whole time. Sometimes I wished it was a dream. I got downstairs and saw my mum crying,I rushed to her quickly and held her. She said the deal will be over if I didn't agree to the marriage proposal. We'll lose everything  my parents had worked for. I couldn't let that happen. At that point,I knew I had to sacrifice myself for my family financial security.
"Mom,I'll do it, I'll learn to love whosoever the man is and everything,I can't see everything waste away like this" I said crying profusely just then dad came and saw mom and I crying. I told him I was going to agree to the proposal only if I am allowed to continue my medical practice when married to Mr Strange. He agreed with me.
Deep down inside,I knew I had gotten myself in some real deep shit.
