"W-what?" I gasp out. "How could you have been there?"
"Remember that boy that they beat until he died? Well, he didn't die. He got thrown into the garbage can, unconscious. He stayed there until he woke up. Then he got himself away from that hell. An old farmer found him and took him in. He and his wife were surprisingly wealthy for farmers. They could afford to go visit family members across the sea, in England. We're in their house right now. They're in England. And that boy, the one who died? Well, he's standing right in front of you."
"Oh david...." I whisper. "I'm so sorry."
"It's okay. You couldn't have known."
"Can I ask you something?"
"Yes?"
"Who did you leave behind in that place?"
David sucks in a breath. He is fighting back tears. "My sister," he chokes out. "Cinda."
