I wasn't able to concentrate in class. I'm still torn and I didn't know what to do.
My teacher in Religion, Mr. Perkins called my name and was waiting for my answer. "Sorry sir, what was the question?" I asked humbly. Mr. Perkins looked at me horribly. "Remain standing, Elise." The class laughed. Well, this is embarrassing.
After class, Mr. Perkins called my attention. "Elise, come." I went near him.
"I am very disappointed with you. You are already failing in my class and a while ago you were day dreaming? What do you want to do with your life now? How could you improve with your actions such as these?"
"I am very sorry, sir. I really was listening to you in class."
"If you were listening, how come you have failing grades?"
"I'm not religious sir. I don't know anything about it. Yes I believe in God but, I just don't practice anything about going to church, masses or what."
"I don't care about that. It doesn't matter if you go to church as long as you study hard."
"But sir, I did! I did my best!"
"Obviously your best wasn't good enough."
"I am really sorry sir."
"Why do you seem depressed today?"
"You will be receiving a silly answer, sir."
"Tell me."
"Well, my three idols are coming here to the Philippines, sir."
"And who are they?"
"Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton."
"Who are they?"
"Ummm... I just told you, sir."
"I've never heard of them."
I wanted to say that it's because he's old.
"Tim Burton was the director for Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd, Dark Shadows, Alice in Wonderland, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and a lot more! Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are mostly in his films. You should watch their films sir! I'm pretty sure you won't regret it"
"And I'm pretty sure that you should read the Bible! You won't regret it!"
"But sir!!!"
"Look Elise, you won't improve when you're going to keep on doing this! These are some silly fictional films and will do nothing to you!
"That's how I view my religion sir. It won't do anything good to me. It's just some silly stories."
Both of us were saddened and remained quiet for a few moments. He started to conversation right after.
"Look alright, I'm going to make a deal. If you study hard for my subject, get good grades. Then I'll watch these films that you're talking about. Deal?"
Wow!
