Healer 《3》

The words came through the radio, static and cacophonising. It made the two ponies scrunch up their noses in distaste.
Pinkie continued to wash the dye from her and Rainbow's manes as the mayor spoke.
Her voice was shakey and hesitant.

"Would all soldier ponies take their positions in the front lines! I repeat, all soldiers, take position!
  Ponyville is under attack!"

With that, Pinkie muttered an inconspicuous spell to dry both of their freshly-dyed manes.
Both of their faces paled as the Mayor signed out. They each shared a horrified look; they never thought that the Prince would get this far... the possibility of success just went down by 50%.
   "Mayor Mare, signing out."

They both sighed, almost in sync.
"Suit up, Pinkie."
They shared a small kiss, uttering to each other a pray to Celestia that they were to all get out alive and uninjured.

Pinkie sucks in a breath, slipping into her armour with small struggle.
It was a mix of silver blue with hints of gold and, designed but not made by Rarity.

Rainbow's was a royal gold colour, similar to the romans designs, though altered to be more aerodynamic.

They both nodded and cantered to where everypony else was standing.
Celestia nodded to them, motioning for them to take their position at front lines.

"Good luck," Twilight smiled a little at them, though it was forced and sad, as Pinkie could tell. It was royal, the armour leaving room for both flight and the element of harmony that was affixed to her armour.

The enemy peered over the horizon, marching in total sync. Every hoofstep was the same, every blink of the eye and every sniff of the muzzle.
   All coordinated and same.

It made Pinkie cringe, seeing everything the same.
It reminded her of what they did to Starlight and the punishment that came to her for her crimes.
Banishment from Equestria.
She repeated in her mind.
Though died shortly afterwards, for murder is sacred. None shall commit the heinous action.
Just like the gypsy that she was, deep on the inside.

Pinkie sighed as the very familiar horns of battle rung out.
   "Everyone, take your positions!"
Celestia called out, Luna preparing her own shadow army.

Then the horns were blown once more.
Both sides charged, clashing weapons and hooves thundering like a storm from the ground.
Speaking of which, a large crack became as the sky darkened.

But this time it was too close.
The metal armour glistened in the moonlight as Rainbow flew.
This was fine until one of the bolts of lightning struck Dash.
She yelped, her wings stopping as she plummeted to the floor.
Pinkie looks towards Dash, screaming in both fury and fear. She hit the attacker with a blow that could break half the bones in a pony's body and sprinted over.

   "Dashie!" She cried out.
Twilight galloped over to cover their flanks, "Pinkie," she said, "You should go and take her to Flutter-"

Twilight turned to look at them, but they were gone. Both of them
She stared in shock. How did they do that?
   Twilight shook her head.
She would look for them by the next break.
She continued to blast and battle the ponies, often taking a burn or slash to her body.

Pinkie lay down Dash on their bed, frowning in dismay.
Her head spun with thoughts as she gathered what was needed to heal the injured.

Bottle of Ambrosia, eye of the deceased, tear of a lover.

She mumbled words in an ancient language, foreign to most ponyfolk that were not well-read such as Twilight.
Rainbow groans, feeling the electricity pulse throughout her body. Her head was fuzzy and fur poking upwards.

Pinkie used a mortar to grind each of the ingredients. The eye and tear squelched into a repulsive, salty jelly-like substance. She added some spices and sugar to ease the bitterness and mixed in the ambrosia, spoon by spoon until she finished the encant that she continued to speak as she mixed.

The mixture developed into this sick yellow mush that emitted a rancid stench that pierced noth of their nostrils.
She lifted it in her hooves and fed it to Rainbow.
She cursed, grimacing but trusting Pinkie, allowing it to ooze down her throat.

She coughed, going to talk but finding herself unable.
Pinkie only watched and nodded, scared for her other half.
    "I love you, Dashie."
She whispered.
Dash was to say something back. Why could she not speak? Was she so incapable as to do so?
Or was it Pinkie's brew?
Rainbow shook of even the thought that her dear, beloved Pinkie Pie poisoning her. Betraying her even though Dash did nothing wrong. Nothing at all...

But suddenly, she felt the electricity that was previously flowing through her veins lift.
It burst out in a ball. Literally.

She watched the giant ball of blue leave her and suddenly, she felt miles better.

Pinkie grinned at Rainbow, grasping the ball and throwing it into the darkness.

Pinkie looked at her other, seeing terror and fear on her face after what she had done. But why? What Pinkie did was magnificent.
   She saved Rainbow's life!

Oh, but what an idiot that she had been. The Pink pony had thought not of what would happen to her now. She defied the law. Of both physics and political law.
Oh, how could she ever be forgiven?

"Rainbow," she starts, pacing on the floor. Her hooves echoed through the basement as she stumbled through her filing drawers.
"Rainbow, I am so sorry." She says, pulling out a book.
  Rainbow looks at her, confused.
She just saved her life - why was she apologising?

"What do you mean, Pinkie? You saved my hide!"
Pinkie shakes her head as Rainbow sits up. Pinkie flicks through the book before landing on a numbered page.
"Law number 27:" she reads out, shoving the book in Rainbow's face.
"Do not use any form of Witchcraft in these lands. Punishment, execution."

Rainbow chuckles, "Pinkie, the death penalty was thrown away years ago! That book is ancient." Rainbow shrugs it off, claiming for the book to be false.
Pinkie huffs out a breath, "Dashie, it's still illegal, though."

Rainbow looks to Pinkie, an unreadable expression on her face.
Pinkie was so scared. What would Dashie think of her after this?
   Oh, her dear precious Dashie~
She could not even begin to imagine a life without her.

"Are you kidding me?" she asks rhetorically, "Pinkie, that's awesome!"
Not hearing what was just said, Pinkie begins to reminisce their past, even the future that may have been.
But of course, all good things must come to an end.

Wait what-? Pinkie stares in shock.
She had been almost certain that  Dash would hate her. She lied to her for as long as three years! How could she think that would be 'awesome'?

"Pinkie, your magic could save hundreds if lives!" Dash exclaimed, throwing her hooves in the air dramatically.
   She shakes her head.
"Witchcraft can be dangerous. That is why it has been illegalised."

Rainbow nods hesitantly, huffing in an understanding manner.

Pinkie trots over and pats her gently,  "You should just sleep, Dashie."
   Rainbow sniffs, nodding.
"Okay then..." she mumbles, putting her head back down.
   "Pinkie?"
She sits next to Dash on the bed.
  "Yes, Dash?"

"Could your magic let this war never happen?"
  Pinkie swallows, thinking about it.
Could it?
She was sure it could. But it would cost so much. Wild magic always does, no matter how big or how small it is.

Magic always comes with a cost.
