That night, Jughead waited for his boyfriend at their favorite booth in Pop's. He had ordered two milkshakes: his usual vanilla milkshake and Archie's usual strawberry milkshake. After what seemed like 10 years, Archie showed up wearing his letterman jacket. Jughead immediately smiled and got up from the booth and hugged Archie before kissing him softly on his lips.
"Well, this is a nice greeting" Archie said softly.
"Just wanted to let you know how happy I am to see you" Jughead said, smiling cutely.
Archie then grabbed Jughead's hand and walked with him to their booth. Jughead sat back down and Archie sat down across from him.
"Has anyone ever told you how cute you are?" Archie asked.
"Nope. No one has" Jughead said, blushing profusely.
"Well, then I'm honored to be the first person to call you cute."
"You know who else is cute here?"
"No. Who?"
"You."
Archie looked down, trying not to show how much he was blushing. He looked up and smiled at Jughead staring into his green eyes.
"Is something on your mind?" Jughead asked.
"Yeah, actually. I keep thinking about Cheryl snapping at Veronica when she wanted to know what was wrong."
"She's not used to someone like Veronica caring about her. Remember, she never got that kind of care from her parents.. they always gave it to Jason."
"Yeah. It just sort of reminded me of when we were in her closet at the party and I was freaking out over how I was gonna come out to my dad."
"You think she might have been freaking out over us coming out to the gang?"
"Possibly."
Jughead nodded slowly and took a sip of his milkshake. He looked around and noticed that the diner was oddly empty.
"It's weird" he whispered.
"What is?" Archie asked, confused.
"How empty Pop's is tonight. It's usually always packed with people."
"It's probably because everyone has plans of their own. I actually like how quiet it is. You can hear everything that the other person is saying to you."
"True. And you don't have to worry about if anyone is judging you."
Archie took a sip of his milkshake and nodded. "Jug, I want to ask you something."
"What is it, Arch?"
"Well, you know how homecoming is slowly approaching right?"
"Yeah."
"I was wondering if, since we're now officially a couple, you wanted to go to homecoming with me."
"Of course! Why wouldn't I?"
"Probably because parties aren't usually your 'scene'."
"True. But, they are my 'scene' if you're there."
Archie smiled and looked down. "You have no idea how much I've wanted to do this. To be here in a booth with you. Just us. No Betty, Kevin or Cheryl. You and I against whatever Riverdale throws at us."
"We should make a vow."
"A vow?"
"Yeah. A vow that we will never let anyone come between us. Ever."
"Cheers to that" Archie said before clinking his cup to Jughead's.
"I wanna say something, Arch."
"What is it?"
"I love you, Archie Andrews."
"I love you too, Jughead Jones."
Jughead leaned forward and kissed Archie lovingly and ran his fingers through Archie's red locks.
He wanted to capture every part of this moment for the rest of his life.
