Later that day, Archie and Jughead walked into the gym to watch the River Vixen tryouts. They walked toward the bleachers and sat on one at the top. A few minutes later, Kevin walked in and sat down next to them. Then, Cheryl walked out of the locker room and sat down in her seat that faced the Vixen hopefuls, including Betty and Veronica.
"Welcome everyone to the River Vixen tryouts. In case you don't know me, I'm Cheryl Blossom and I'm the captain of the team. We will now begin our tryouts with our first contestant Josie McCoy."
After Josie's tryout, which was successful, there were 20 other girls that came after her. About half of the girls got on the team, but the other half unfortunately failed. It was down to Betty and Veronica. The entire gym got quiet as they waited for Cheryl to call one of their names.
"Next up is Betty Cooper! Show us what you got, Betty!" Cheryl said with a smile.
"WOOOH GO BETTY!" Archie, Jughead, and Kevin shouted from the crowd.
"Hi, I'm Betty Cooper and the song that I will be dancing to is 'bury a friend' by Billie Eilish" Betty said before the song came blasting through the speakers.
Archie, Jughead, and Kevin watched as Betty started dancing. They could easily see that Cheryl was looking like a proud cousin. After a few minutes, Betty's dance ended.
"Congratulations, Betty! You are officially a River Vixen!!" Cheryl said standing up and handing Betty the uniform.
"Thank you" Betty said before walking to the sideline and sitting down with the other girls that made the team.
"Last, but definitely not least, Veronica Lodge."
Veronica walked to the middle of the gym and cleared her throat nervously.
"I'm Veronica Lodge and I will be dancing to 'old town road' by Lil Nas X" she said as the song started playing.
Veronica started dancing and surprisingly there were some claps from the crowd. Veronica kept dancing and after the song ended there was a silence that was almost deafening until Cheryl spoke.
"Veronica, I'm just gonna be blunt about this. That is the worst song that anybody has ever picked for a tryout. In case you forgot, this is a cheerleading tryout not a fucking nightclub. Also, the dance routine for the song fucking sucked too. All in all, your performance is a 0/10. I need girls with fire on my squad... not girls who tryout with songs about horses and porches! For fuck's sake. Hopefully, you'll do better with the interview portion."
"If I can just explain..."
"Were you even listening to me, panini head? Your performance was trash. It belongs in the dumpster behind the school! Anyways, let's get on with the interview shall we?"
Jughead looked at Archie who was trying really hard not to laugh. Kevin was already slightly chuckling. He then looked at the sidelines where Betty had a smile on her face. Everybody was loving this.
Veronica rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "Fine, fire any questions that you have at me. I'm ready."
"Great! First question, what was your school like back in New York?"
"It was a private school. Everybody had to wear a uniform. Everybody that went there was rich. There were some sons and daughters of diplomats, Wall Street bankers, Broadway actors, fashion designers. You name it, they were there."
"Interesting. How many cliques were there?"
"Not too many. You mainly had your popular kids and your nerds."
"What was your personality like?"
"I was kind of like you. A shallow bitch that only gets what they want by calling people names and acting like they rule the school."
