Rocco
There was a lot of yelling and commotion as they took Elise into the back of the emergency room. The hospital staff bombarded me with questions as others worked on her. I tried to answer what I could. I even had to bring Ramona back to help me. She told them everything she knew.
Now it was a wait and see. The doctor worked on Elise to stabilize her. Elise leaned over and puked again. What the hell? They cleaned her up and brought a container to catch the puke.
We stood there while they helped her. I've never seen her this sick before. They also put an IV into her as they gave her medicine, but she just puked it up. Okay, this was pretty gross.
Eventually, her parents arrived and filled in the doctor with any pertinent medical information. After a while, she finally fell asleep.
Jax looked at her as she slept, then at me. "What happened?"
"Everything was fine. I made Elise something to eat, but she was unresponsive. She was running a fever and then got sick. Damien called 911, and they came to get her. I didn't know she had been sick."
"No one did. It's not something we focused on. The doctor diagnosed Elise with Lupus when she was fifteen. She had gotten very sick, and we took her in for a checkup. They ran tests and found out she had it. For the most part, we've been able to manage it. She doesn't exhibit noticeable symptoms, so people don't know about it."
That made sense why she was the way she was. I wish she would have told me.
"Rocco, I know you're shocked by this news but understand that Elise is still the same person you met."
"Yeah, she's the person I fell in love with, and I proposed to."
I had heard of Lupus but didn't know much about it.
"Well, if you're planning to marry my daughter, I suggest you learn about Lupus. She doesn't need someone to drop her because things get rough. If that happens, I'll drop you like a dog."
I'm sure leaving Elise was out of the question. Jax may have helped me, but he wouldn't hesitate to put me down. That was a guarantee.
The doctor admitted her to a hospital room and got her situated as they ran tests on her. They also gave her medicine to help. She was finally sleeping, and her fever came down a little.
I sat in a chair as she slept. Most guys would skate out on their chicks when they got news like this, but I wasn't one of them. I meant what I said. She's the first person I found that stood her ground with me. She could be goofy and stubborn, but she also fought back. She was stronger than she looked, and I managed to push all her buttons. I sat there and looked at her. At that moment, I knew if anything happened to her, it would be my undoing.
Oh, Elise, there's no way you're getting rid of me now.

EliseI awoke to find myself in the hospital. Fantastic. I saw my dad and Rocco asleep in two chairs, sleeping on each other. That isn't reassuring.
"Oh, good, you're awake," mom said with a chipper tone.
"I feel like crap." I contorted my face, then looked at my dad and Rocco. "And that's disturbing on so many levels."
She giggled. "Yeah, but they look adorable."
"That's debatable." I pushed myself up as she helped me, raising my bed slightly.
A doctor walked in a few minutes later. He was looking through a folder and looked at me. "How are you feeling?"
"Like hell," I answered.
