Ethan POV

When the school day was over I ended up staying a little later. Apparently when Rory ran out of the cafeteria he ran into s teacher and ratted me out. Benny said he'd make sure Vanessa would get home safely and I thanked him. First day and I already got detention. It was placed on my school record since it was nothing serious. The teacher even congratulated me on giving a glare that was enough to make someone pee themselves. Then proceeded to insult me by saying that he couldn't believe that a 'creampuff' like me could do that. When I left the school it was already dusk. The detention room was all the way on the other side of the room and it's a big school. In other words I got lost.

Anyway I was now walking home when I got the feeling I was being watched. I slowed down and looked around. Nothing. Weird. I shook my head and kept walking. That's when something down an alley decided to make some noise. I came to a complete halt and took a long look. Nothing. 'What's going on?' I thought and kept walking. Only I was going faster this time. I needed to get home. Now. Then something told me to turn and so I did. I did a complete 180. Nothing there. I turned again when I felt wind rushing behind me. Then I looked in both directions. Not a thing. Absolutely empty. I turned and kept walking.

"Hey." That one word made me jump about twenty feet in the air. I spun around at the speed of light and saw a girl. The same girl. No shirt. Open black leather jacket, showing off her black lacy bra. Black skinny jeans, knee high combat boots, tattoos and the haircut. "Melody." I breathed. She smiled. Though it was...nicer? I couldn't tell. She still looked like a sadistic, murdering cannibal. "Why so jumpy?" She asked. "I kept hearing noises. It seems to happen whenever you come around." I said jokingly, but I could see her smile weaken for a fraction of a second.

"Or maybe your just paranoid and your mind is playing tricks on you." She suggested. "Yea, maybe." I said. "So, what are you going out?" "Walking home. I was held back at the school. Then got lost trying to leave."  I said. "She chuckled lightly. "Well, since I'm free how about we walk to your house together?" She suggested holding out her hand. I blushed, but took her hand and we started walking. We walked in comfortable silence for a while before she broke it with an odd question.

"Ever heard of Vampires?" I gave her an odd look. "Umm, Huh?" It was more of a shocked 'huh' other than a confused one. "Vampires, you know. Only come out at night, fangs, flashy eyes, speed." She listed off the stereotypical things Vampires have. "Uhh, yea. I know of them." "What do you think of them?" I blinked. 'Why is she asking me about this?' "Well. As long as they're not trying kill me or anyone I care about then I guess they're doing what they have to to survive." I replied. She just hummed.

"Would you want to be one?" That shocked me. Would I want to be a vampire? I mean their powers are awesome. Though the immortality snd death by light thing would be a really big weakness. "Uh no. I don't really think I would. I mean the powers are awesome, but I'm not to fond of how easily they die. If you throw them under some sunlight then they disintegrate. Hit with wood in the heart and they turn to as. Then the immortality. I don't wanna watch my friends and family die off. That would just be depressing." I explained. She nodded, but didn't say anything. We just walked in silence for the rest of the way.

When Melody and I got to my house stopped almost immediately. Her face twisted into a horrifying scowl as she looked around. I asked her if everything was ok, but she just told me it was ok. I asked if she was sure, but she said the same thing and told me it would be best if I went home. Apparently she had things to do. I was kinda hurt she couldn't stay longer, but understood that people have their own business to attend to at times. She walked off into the night and I walked into my house.

My parents were already gone and the babysitter was here. With the dark skinned girl Vanessa ran into at school. Erica was going through the grueling lessons of Dance! Dance! Revolution. No one noticed me. That is until Benny walked out of the kitchen.

"Ethan!" He called excitedly. Then everyone else looked at me. Suddenly a door upstairs slammed open and quick footsteps came through the hallway and down the stairs. Just as I opened my arms Vanessa flew into me and wrapped her arms around me. "You left me." She whispered. "I didn't leave you I was held back at school. You'll have to get used to me not being around. You can't have me there every step of the way. You can be independent." I told her. "Is she ok?" Erica asked worriedly. "Yea. She just has severe social anxiety. She can't be around too many strange people without nearly breaking down and the only things that keep her calm is me and her medicine. We're going to get her medicine tomorrow after school." I answered.

Erica nodded and went back to Jane. Sarah's eyes lingered on us for a while before she went back to watching the two blondes. I looked to Benny and mouthed at him to get some candy and sodas so Vanessa, him and I could go play some games. He nodded and I led my sister up to my room where I sat her down and starting hooking up the game. Benny came up and closed the door behind him. He handed Nessa a bag of chips and a pop and sat everything else down on the floor between us.

"What game we playing?" He asked. "Zombie Ninja Ultimate." He fist pumped the air and whisper screamed 'yes!'
