*Update: Sorry for such a late chapter. I'm currently preparing for finals, so all my stories will be late with their chapters. Sorry about that. Also, I apologize for not writing the breakfast scene. I just thought that it wouldn't really fit Keith's character or nature at this point, so I decided to leave it out. Please forgive me. ^^" Enjoy the chapter*
"Run, Blue!" Lance shouted. Pulling on her reins, Blue was motivated to run against the wolves. The wolves were right on their tail, trying to bite and snap at Blue's legs. Lance noticed this and pulled on the reins to one side, making Blue hit one of the wolves on the side and into a tree.
It was starting to look a bit better for the two, until they happened to stumble onto a frozen pond. Due to their weight, Blue and Lance collapsed through the ice. Freezing cold water hit Lance's skin, causing his adrenaline to spike despite it already being so high. Some of the wolves jumped into the water after them, but they mostly caused Blue to head faster to shore.
Lance let Blue take them to a clearing where it finally seemed safe for the two. Suddenly, the wolves emerged from the woods at running speeds. Blue whined in fear as she bucked her strong legs in the air, causing Lance to be thrown off. Once landing on the ground with a thud, he didn't have much time to react to the pain as he was slowly being surrounded by wolves again.
Grabbing a nearby branch, he knocked it against the nearest wolf, letting it hit a nearby tree. Making his way to Blue, Lance kept up the fight to protect himself and his horse. Blue continued to buck, keeping the wolves at bay from getting any closer. One wolf grabbed onto Lance's branch, snapping it in half, and left him defenseless once more. He tried to get back on Blue's saddle, but another wolf leaped at him, grabbing him by the back of his cloak and dragging him back onto the ground. He opened his eyes once a bit of the pain subsided, staring straight into the eyes of the alpha wolf. The wolf snarled and just before it was going to make its kill, it was grabbed and hoisted into the air.
"Lance! Are you alright?!"
Keith had flung the alpha wolf away, having a hand raised out for Lance. He quickly grabbed it and he was hoisted back onto Blue by his savior. Before Keith could jump onto Blue, the wolf pack started their attack on him.
He roared in pain, but Lance could see the anger and determination in his eyes as Keith flung the wolves off of him, turned towards them. Another wolf slashed Keith's shoulder with its claws while the others bit and scratched his neck. He winched at their attempted kill, but he wasn't giving up, not with Lance's life at stake. The alpha wolf ran towards him, jumping and aiming towards the center of Keith's throat. Keith quickly snatched it out of the air and and threw it aside, the wolf's body hitting against a tree and knocking it out. The rest of the pack saw the mess and whimpered in fear as they ran off from the scene.
Keith huffed tiredly as it seemed that he was out of breath with having to fight an entire pack of wolves away. It was all for a boy, a boy that was afraid of him. With shaky breaths, he turned around towards Lance, looking at him before collapsing to the ground and going unconscious.
This was Lance's chance to escape, to be free and to finally be reunited with his father again. Yet...Was it right to leave the master even though he risked his life to save his own? Lance sighed as he shook his head in disbelief, wondering what caused him to even decide to go back. He got of Blue and walked to the fallen beast. Kneeling down, he took one of his arms and wrapped it around Keith's neck, hoisting him up from the ground. Surprisingly, the master wasn't even that heavy. With a bit more effort, Lance got him onto Blue, and the trio went back towards the dark enchanted castle.
