Moving out of the big city gave you a chance to enjoy the quiet and peacefully sleep. You haven't had the chance to do so in your small apartment because of all the annoying cars passing by and all the irritated people ranting to their friends without realizing how loud they were being.
When you had graduated from school you were disappointed that even though you had studied Animal Behavior and Zoology for years and graduated at the top of your class, your first real job was at a restaurant. But you weren't a chef, cooking was way to hard when it came to a professional level. You weren't even one of those waitresses, no, 'cause you were a dishwasher... that wasn't even a joke.
Years of studying Animal Behavior led to being a dishwasher at a Chinese restaurant and the pay was low, so you found an apartment with low rent and started to save money for your future; if you had one.
You applied to many animal related jobs and none of them wanted to hire you so you kept on looking and even though all you had left was your pride, it was clear to see that even your pride wanted to leave you behind.
One day you got a call back though, from one of the dog shelters that you had applied a position for. They wanted to see you face to face and test out your skills to see if you were what they were looking for.
Long story short, you got hired. Finally you get to put your school degrees to use.
The shelter was more on the county side outside the city so you decided to use up your savings and buy a big house closer to the shelter. And soon enough you were packing up your things and welcoming your new home as a brand new part of your life.
Getting started at your new work went smoothly and so did you boss Kim Namjoon think. He said that he was happy that he hired someone so passionate about their job like you and that you were doing a good job already; even though you had only officially worked there for a week.
The more weeks that went by you started to feel a bit lonely in you house. Even as a dishwasher you had less time to spend at home then you have now. It somehow didn't make sense. That you worked less hours caring for dogs and finding them new homes, than you did washing dirty dishes. You even got more salary for this job... unbelievable.
It was true that sometimes you would work longer days at the shelter, especially when new dogs arrived, but you were still spending a lot of time at home, sometimes too much for your own liking. Maybe you could get a dog.
You had always wanted a dog, but there was never time enough for you to take care of one. But now maybe you could get one, seeing how much time you have on your free hands. You had literally redecorated your room 3 times because you were so bored, maybe a dog wouldn't be a bad decision.
The next day at the shelter you thought that maybe your should discuss with Namjoon about getting a dog. Since he was your boss he surely would have some great advice and at the same time you could figure out if it was something you really wanted.
At your lunch break you made your way to Namjoon's office door and knocked a few times. The door swung open and in front of you stood a man with a huge smile with dimples on each side.
"Y/N!" he said and motioned for you to get inside his office.
Your back was faced against him as he closed the door and sat down at his desk.
"Is there something you wanna talk about?" he asked; "Please take a seat!"
You nodded as you made your way to sit down on the chair in front of him.
"Actually, I was thinking of getting a dog, but I don't know if it's a good idea considering time and work. I thought that maybe you had some advice."
You looked at his face that was still painted with a bright smile as he took a breath before starting to talk.
"You have nothing to be worried about! All of the employed people here have dogs and they manage their time and work perfectly still. And it's much easier to bring your dog to work if there's a problem since we are all used to dogs here. I would say go for it! It would even be amazing if you wanted to adopt a dog from here, but you choose!"
On the way back home you felt a bit weird. Should you get a dog or not? Namjoon said that it wouldn't be a bad idea, but why did it feel like a bad idea? Maybe you shouldn't get a dog anyways...
About one week later you took the position at the front desk while the rest of the team had a lunch break. You hadn't gotten closer to any of the other workers here, only to your boss who didn't want you to call him Mr. Kim since it was 'too business sounding'. But you were okay with that, Namjoon was a great person to be around and even though you had worked with the other employees, no matter how nice they were, you would rather be alone.
You heard the bell from the front door go off and looked up to see a mom with her son walking into the shelter.
"Hello! What can I do for you guys today?" you said with a cheery voice. Maybe they were gonna adopt one of the dogs at the shelter.
The woman was dressed in a long light brown coat that looked like a dress with some leggings on, probably the warm type. Her hair was black and it kinda looked like a bob cut, you didn't really know different hairstyles so you just guessed. She wore black shoes with small heels and you wondered if it really was the weather for that yet, maybe it was and you had just missed out. It was the beginning of spring, the time of the year where people are either happy or sad. Happy that summer was on the way, or sad because allergies. Her face was painted with an expression of sadness and the face you get when you don't understand anything. Why was it like that?
You looked down and saw the son. He wore a big blue beanie and a big jacket with some warm looking winter pants and boots. His eyes were red and swollen... This didn't look like they were going to adopt a dog.
