I lost my bestfriend in the crowd of people, so I grabbed another drink and headed out back, knowing she would text me when she was ready to leave. It was good to get away from the smell of weed smoke and overdone perfume for a little while. The back porch must have been deemed the makeout zone because that was all that was going on. I walked passed everyone-- not that they noticed-- and headed through the backyard to the lake at the edge.

The lights didn't really reach the water, so I sat down at the dimly lit bank and looked over the water. I thought I was alone, so the cheerful voice startled me. "Whatcha drinking?" A boy asked, sitting down beside me. I couldn't really see him in the shadows.

"Pepsi," I nodded. "I'm not much of a drinker."

"Well, okay," He laughed, obviously buzzed. "I'm Ashton."

"Y/N," I replied, "Hi."

"So what's a non-drinker doing at a party like this?"

"My friend dragged me," I shrugged. "I wasn't really in the mood, but here I am as the DD."

"Well, I'm glad you came." He said. "I saw you inside and I followed you out here because I thought you were really pretty."

"You followed me out into the dark, alone, to an area where nobody else was?" I asked. A breath escaped his mouth as he tried to find words. I touched his arm, "I'm kidding."

"No, you're right, it's creepy now that I think about it," He laughed. "So you don't really want to be here, right?"

"Not particularly."

"Let's leave then, I live down the street."

"Oh," I laughed, "I don't--"

"Not like that," He assured me. "Like.. I have Zelda and a whole bunch of cereal at home."

"That does sound more fun than this," I nodded, standing up. "Let's go. I gotta find my friend first."

We went inside and I found Y/B/F/N in the corner with some guy with a reverse skunk hair thing going on. They were playing cards and she had obviously refilled her cup a few times. "Hey, Y/N, what's up?" She grinned.

"Um, I'm leaving with Ashton," I smiled.

Ashton gave the skunk hair kid a nod, "Hey, Michael."

"You know Mikey?" Y/B/F/N giggled. "He's so great."

"Yeah, I know Mikey," Ashton laughed.

"Well, anyway," I said. "Call me when you need a ride home, okay?" When we left, he led me down the street and I questioned my choice. I didn't usually leave parties with strangers, no matter how much cereal was offered.

He led me up to his room and I sat down on one of the bean bag chairs on his floor. "You see what I mean?" He asked, pointing to his mini-fridge. He had four large boxes of cereal and a few bowls stacked on top. "So much cereal."

He was a strange one, but he was really cute. He had dimples and curly, dirty blonde hair. Not to mention he had fabulous arms. Next thing I knew we were taking turns playing Zelda and working though a large box of Fruity Pebbles.

It was almost three when I got a call from Y/B/F/N-- or her phone, that is. "Hello?"

"Y/N?" I heard back. "It's Michael."

"Oh?" I replied, confused. "What's up?"

"Y/B/F/N is really drunk and I don't want to take advantage of her," He replied awkwardly. I heard her say sadly, come on, Mikey, don't be lame. He said to her, "I gave you my number for when you're sober." He went back to me, "Can you come pick her up?"

"Absolutely, thanks for being so decent."

"Of course," He replied before hanging up.

"I have to go," I told Ashton.

"But we're only on level nine," He pouted. "And there's so much cereal left." We both stood up and he pulled me into a hug, "I may have put my number in your phone when you went to the bathroom. You should really get a passcode."

"You're a creep," I smiled up at him.

He leaned down and kissed me, but I pulled away after a few seconds. "I uh, I have to.."

"Just call me, okay?" He grinned, letting me go. "Go get your friend before Michael loses his willpower."
