I loved running, so of course I thought it would be fun to go into the trails in the woods at the edge of the city. Until I got lost of course. Now it was getting dark and I was scared. I kept running to find a way out, because who knew what was in the woods at night? There were wild animals. And homeless people. The ones on the corner weren’t very nice, I couldn’t imagine how awful the ones living in the woods could be.

I was about to give up hope, sit down, and cry. The sunset had cast an orange glow through the trees, but when that was gone I’d be left in utter darkness. I stopped running to catch my breath when I heard the crunching of twigs behind me. That’s it, I thought, I’m going to die. Right now

"Hey, are you okay?"

I was bent over with cramps, my chest was heaving, and I was lost. Did I look okay? I spun around to see a boy a bit taller than me, shirtless, with beads of sweat dripping off of his chin. He pulled his head phones out so that I could answer him.

"I’m lost," I sighed, shaking my head. It was in that moment that I realized this would be the perfect opportunity to kill me. This guy could be a toned, hot, tan, axe murderer. And he could knock me out and drag me to his hiding spot in the woods and kill me.

Instead, he nodded, wiping sweat from his forehead. “Yeah, I got lost in here a few months back. I’ll show you the way out.”

"Really?"

"Yeah, where are you parked?"

"Just passed the Tollbooth on US 73," I told him. "You parked close?"

"Yeah," He nodded, "Come on."

We walked back, and it turned out that I had been running father and farther into the woods. When we got to my car, I gave him a hug. “You don’t know how much I appreciate this.”

"No problem," He smiled. "There are scary homeless people in there, so."

"That’s what I’m saying!"

"Hey, how about you give me your number," He grinned, looking at the ground. "You know, in case you ever get lost again."
