Chapter 5: Desperate Times

"Doesn't look like things are going too well for the resistance." I remarked as we see several resistance fighters being gunned down. The three of us run towards a temple and take cover behind two nearby statues, hiding from the patrolling guards. "I don't like these odds." Nate muttered. I shake my head as Chloe said. "No?"

"No, I think maybe we should cut over to the hotel a different way. Just avoid this crew altogether." He said as Ilook at Chloe and see her holding a grenade. "I'm sorry, do you have a plan to go along with that grenade?" I asked her. "Yes I do...I'm going to circle round this way and break up their little party." She replied with a coy smile. But Nate and I see two guards armed with a rocket launcher standing on a truck nearby. "Aren't you forgetting about somebody?" Nate asked her. "Well, that's where you and your sister come in, sweetheart. I need both of you to take care of them. But, ah, do it quietly." She said to us.

"Do it quietly..." I said, questionable. "Yeah." She replied. "Are you sure about this?" Nate asked her. "Desperate times, right?" She said and she hurries off. "What does that mean?" Nate asked me. I shrug and we quietly make our way towards the two guards and then we take them out, silently. Chloe throws a grenade out into the courtyard, and we began to take out the guards surrounding the temple.

"Oh, crap. Reinforcements." Chloe said as another truck drives towards us and more guards appear at the other end of the street. "How many soldiers did he hire?" I asked as we take out the armed guards in the area.

"Yeah, I think that's the last of 'em." Nate said as we look around. "This is the hotel. Now we just have to find a way up." said Chloe while I found a fire escape on the side of the hotel. "I think this is our best bet." I said then I look over at my brother. "Gimme a boost up." I said to him. "You got it." He said and he gives me a boost up to the ladder. "Ya got it?" He asked me as I get and go over to the ladder then slide the it down to the ground. "Come on up." I said and Chloe a d Nate starts climbing the fire escape.

"All right, looks clear so far." Chloe said as we get onto the rooftop. "Is there another way in?" Nate asked her. "Not from here." She said as Nate vaults over the railings and jumps across to a street light opposite. "Very resourceful." Chloe said with sarcasm while Nate jumps onto the roof and climbs through the window to the second floor of the hotel. "All right, I'm in." He said and we follow him.

At the back of the room, an elevator door opens and three armed guards walk out. "Oh, crap!" Nate and I exclaimed and the three of us take out the three guards and enter the elevator. The elevator starts going up, but suddenly jolts to a halt. "Oh, well, that was unpleasant." Chloe said. "They must've hit a generator." I said as I go to the door then looked over at Nate. "Gimme a hand." I said and both of us pry the doors open with our hands.

"Just a little more..." Nate groans as we slowly get the door open. "Guys, MOVE!" Chloe yells and she  pushes us out of the elevator as the doors slam shut again and we try to open the doors again. "It's no good - we're gonna have to fix the power to get you out. You gonna be okay?" Nate asked her. "Yeah. Wish I'd brought something to read." She said with sarcasm as I open the junction box on the wall nearby. "Looks like the circuit breaker's on the top floor. Just sit tight - we'll take care of it." I said and we start making our way through the building.

"Great, power's out and a girl's trapped. I swear to God, if there's a zombie around the next corner." Nate grumbles just as we come up to a corner. I walk up to it then, cautiously, look around the corner to see nothing. "You're in luck! No zombie!" I joked. "Oh thank God." Nate said, sarcastically, as I chuckle and we make our way up to the top floor of the hotel, then reach the elevator where Chloe was trapped. "Guys? You haven't forgotten about me, have you?" She asked us as we drop down into the room below and find the circuit breaker. "Found it." I said as Nate turns the power back on and the elevator doors open. "Oh, thank God." Chloe said with relief as she runs out.
