It was another day on the Shenzhou. A Federation communication relay had gone down and the ship was sent to figure out what was wrong. Being a simple science officer, you didn't have much to do with the whole situation, since you weren't part of the Bridge crew. All you knew was that something was going on with that relay. Michael Burnham was then sent on a mission to check on an anomaly in the distance. You went on with your work.
That was until Michael was suddenly rushed to the medical bay. You were tasked with trying to go over any data she uncovered after her mission; nothing. The data was corrupted. All you could do at that point was continue your previous work.
The ship then went into red alert. What was happening? You didn't know. But you were scared. Considering the state that commander Burnham came back in, you only knew that whatever could happen next may not be good.
Moments later, you hear gasps and scared murmurs all around. Everyone was looking out the windows, their faces going pale. What was all this commotion about? You rushed over to a window and your eyes widened, now understanding what was throwing the whole crew into fear. Before your very eyes a large, foreign ship revealed itself out of nothing. "What the hell has this ship gotten itself into?" was all that you could think as you stared at the menacing structure.
Everyone was in a silent frenzy now. Scans were being sent in, streams of data and information were being thrown at the science division. You and your fellow science officers went to work on all of it. You hoped to the known universe that the Bridge was dealing with this. Captain Georgiou was a strong, intelligent woman. Commander Burnham quickly recovered from her injuries and she was a quick and logical thinker. And lieutenant commander Saru, your dear friend and trusted chief science officer... you could only imagine how hard his fight-or-flight response was going off right now. But they could handle this. They had to. The Bridge will manage, right?
You soon learned by word of mouth and through all the scans that the monster of a ship present before the Shenzhou was a Klingon vessel. Dear god. No one had seen a Klingon for a long, long time. From all your training at the academy, you knew that Klingons were highly aggressive. You weren't sure if this was going to end well anymore.
Later on, out of nowhere, your eyes felt as if they were being torn apart. A white, blinding light was blaring through all the windows of the ship along with an ear-piercing ringing. You squinted, covering your ears, turning your body away. What the hell was happening?! So many things were going on at once. A high ranking officer was attacked, a Klingon vessel just appeared out of no where, and now the whole ship was being driven to deafness and blindness by presumably the Klingons themselves. Soon, the ringing went away, but the bright light stayed. You tried to carry on with your work.
Mutiny. Suddenly the whole ship was buzzing with that word. Michael Burnham was now suddenly a mutineer? How? When? Everything was spinning into further chaos. The bright light was now gone, but for some reason that only made you feel worse.
You could then feel the whole ship tremble as it was shot by the Klingon vessel. You and your fellow crewmen grabbed onto the nearest table, chair, person; anything that could keep yourselves stable and standing. The ship was shaking like there was an earthquake. Explosions were heard. Screams and wailing sounded throughout the ship's halls. Another shot was fired, and the ship quaked again. In the near distance, you could hear the ship's hull break open.
You and the other science officers made a break for it. You all began to run. You didn't exactly know where you would go, but you all ran. Running throughout the halls, your mind was going everywhere. Why is this happeing? How many people have been hurt? Is Saru okay-
Saru. Your mind was stuck on him. For reasons you couldn't explain, your eyes began to well up with tears. In your head you screamed at yourself; "Now isn't the best time to be crying". You couldn't be worrying about one person, not now. You had to worry about the whole ship, the entire crew. But your heart was set on worrying for Saru. Just him. That's all you cared about right now. You wanted to see him, but you knew that was impossible.
Everything then went in slow motion. You could hear an explosion, the hull ripping open behind you, and screams. Not just the screams of others, but your own. Out of nowhere your arm was suddenly thrown into a white, loud pain, forcing you to yell out in agony. The force of the blast pushed you to the ground flat, knocking the air out of your lungs. You gasped painfully, gripping at your arm. You knew there was obviously something wrong with it but you didn't want to look. You couldn't. You rolled onto your back and stared blankly at the ceiling. Shutting your eyes, you internally begged for your suffering to end.
Then everything went to black.
You felt cold. But then, there was warmth. Someone was holding you. Holding you close. You were being carried, but you couldn't see. Your eyes were still shut. You didn't want to open them. Your arm was in so much pain; that same intensely hot pain. You weakly raised your unafflicted arm up and gripped onto whoever was carrying you. They were running, you could feel it. Their breath was labored.
With all your leftover strength, you opened your tired eyes. Your vision was blurry, but you could vaguly make things out. You looked up at the face of who was carrying you; Saru. He was yelling, spitting commands at other crewmembers. Something along the lines of 'get to the emergency pods', but your brain was so jumbled you didn't want to bother processing it. You continued staring at his face, your eyes welling with tears again. Although you were still incredibly weak, you reached your available arm up to his face and softly ran your fingers along his cheek. Saru's blue eyes darted down to you and his hairless brows furrowed.
"Lieutenant, you're going to be alright! Just stay with me! Stay-..."
You couldn't process anymore of his words, no matter how much you wanted to keep listening. The Kelpien's voice gave you comfort. He didn't say much, but his words melted some of your pain away. The sound of his voice faded; became muted. The last thing you remember before passing out again was seeing Saru's frightened face, then everything going to black and coldness.
