❝Darkness, real darkness, was something more than just a lack of light.❞ -Beautiful Creatures

"You can just sit by me," Niall replies as we step onto the bus. It was a pretty stereotypical situation- new girl with no place to sit on a yellow school bus.

I follow him to one of the last seats and smooth my plaid skirt down before sitting. As much as I loved skinny jeans and big sweaters, I didn't really mind the school uniforms. The girls wore green skirts and white button-up short-sleeved shirts with a matching green sweater vest over it.

Okay, so I hated the sweater vest, but everything else I didn't really mind. And we were aloud to wear any shoes we wanted, so I just chose an pair of black flats.

I felt like several pairs of eyes were on me and didn't like it. It made me feel uneasy. Andrew takes the seat beside us. Over the past few days I'd learned he was a freshman in collage but took the high school bus to get there.

Kind of weird if you ask me, but so far there had been a lot of things here that I found unusual. Niall was senior like me, which I was secretly relieved. At least I would know someone in my grade, even thoguh he was a guy.

A hot guy.

"So are you excited?" he asks, snapping me from my crazy thoughts.

"I guess so," I say slowly. A smile tries to form on my lips but it fails. "You all know each other already."

It was true. School here started nearly a month ago, enough time for peole to find their cliques and groupies. I had confidence, definately. I used to have choir solos a lot in middle school. But their was something about everybody looking at me that made me feel so uneasy.

"Don't worry about it," he assures me. "Someone like you will make a lot of friends quickly."

"Hey Neil!" someone yells, interrupting our converstaion. We look up at who I was guessing was a classmate. He was kind of tubby, but he looked like he could knock me out with his finger. His hair was buzzed short, and I tried not to look at the stain on the bottom of his shirt.

"Angus, it's Niall," Andrew sighs. Angus doesn't even acknowlage him as he raises his eyebrows at Niall. Niall sits there quietly, expressionless.

"I was wondering if you thought this shirt matched these pants," Angus asks. What? Then I realized what he was doing. I slowly lay my hand over Niall's, which was curled into a tight fist. He pulls his hand away from me but keeps it down.

"Oh that's right! You can't see color!"

Angus' head falls back as he starts to laugh. It sounded like a whale mixed with a pelican... if that makes sense. I raise my eyebrows at him as he finally catches his breath. I feel the bus come to a stop and realize we'd arrived at the school.

"What are you, his babysitter?" Angus asks me as I stand up with the two brothers. I look back up at him roll my eyes.

"No I'm his prostitute, stupid," I say sarcastically walking down the aisle. One of his buddies loudly does the "ooooooooh!" thing as I slowly step onto the sidewalk.

"That was pretty awesome," Andrew says as Niall starts to laugh. I smile at them as they lead me into the school. Once again, more people look at me curiously but I ignore it.

"I have to get going," Andrew says once we reach the doors. I turn around and smile at him before he says a goodbye to us.

"You guys seem to get along pretty well," I say to Niall. We walk around a group of girls and walk around a corner.
