"I guess you should actually be thanking me for forcing you to go on a date with Marissa."
"Don't push your luck, Malone." He smirked.
"Again, I'm really sorry about that."
He smiled gently and shook his head. "It's okay, it worked out for the best. I never used to see Marissa as girlfriend material, but it turns out she is."
"There's a first for everything." I joked.
"About that... H-how many guys has she been with exactly?" He asked nervously. "A lot?"
"That depends, how many girls have you been with?" I asked, drinking my tea.
"One." He stated.
I couldn't help but let out a smile as I tried not to laugh.
"Ha. Ha. Laugh it up." He sneered.
"I'm sorry, I'm not laughing at that, you know I've only had two boyfriends, one of which only lasted about a month or so." I reminded.
"Then what's so funny?" He asked like a 5 year old that didn't understand a sex joke.
"It's just that.. Marissa's been with a lot of guys."
"What? Like 8 or 9?"
I looked at my tea with a smirk. ".... Sure."
"Jamie! What's with the smirk? She's in the double digits?"
"I've said too much." I stood up and walked into my bedroom, locking the door to really leave him hanging.
"Jamie Malone! You suck!"
I laughed at his agony.
*
"Jamie!" Marissa stormed into my room, slamming the door shut. "What the hell is wrong with you?!"
"Wh-what?" I asked innocently as I sat up from my bed.
"How could you tell Troye something like that? Are you trying to scare him off?! You don't tell an 18 year old virgin with a history of one girlfriend that the amount of guys I've slept with is in the double digits!"
"He was going to find out eventually!" I said defensively.
"Yeah! But not when we've been on 4 dates, have barely started dating and haven't slept together! I haven't even had time to change my bloody relationship status of Facebook let alone have that conversation!"
"Marissa! I'm sorry, okay? But you're over-reacting."
"Jamie," She said seriously. "You had no right to tell him that. No matter what our situation, that was information that I was to tell him, not you." She looked me dead in the eye, slightly puffed from the yelling and adrenaline.
"I-I'm sorry."
"How you could be so stupid?" She said so angrily. "He's probably never going to speak to me again and my first real, non-childish-high school relationship will be ruined."
"Mar-"
"Save it." She stormed out and slammed the door. I was in absolute shock, it wasn't until the second door slam that had me crying.
*
It had been a week and since then Marissa had really spoken to me. Troye wasn't scared off, and they actually began to act like a real couple.
Their giggles were sickening. Like, puke-worthy.
I rolled my eyes and tried to just continue with my school work. But I decided to pick up the phone instead.
"Hello?" Answered the other side.
"Hey, it's me."
"J-Jamie!" He said happily. "Its been a while. We haven't had the chance for a proper conversation since school started."
"6 weeks is a long time to go without a proper conversation." I mumbled sadly.
"I know, I know. Jamie, I miss you."
"I miss you too." I sighed. "A lot. When can we see each other?" I asked.
"I don't know. I really don't."
"Let's move onto a different subject, please." I pleaded. "How are you?"
"I'm good, how's life practically living with Marissa?" He asked with a chuckle.
"Ever since those two started dating, she's been here every day." I complained. "And she still won't speak to me.
He laughed into the phone.
"Thank you for laughing at my pain."
"Relax, you two have been through a lot worse."
We spoke for the next hour or so, laughing and talking as if nothing had changed and we hadn't just gone the last month and a half without speaking.
I let out a loud laugh. "I've missed these conversations." I said after calming down.
"Me t-... One sec." I could hear a muffled voice say 'Hey, just give me a second and we can get out of here' and a girl's giggle. "Hey, Jame, I need to go, I didn't realise the time, I was meant to go out with the guys."
"Oh.. Okay." I said.
"Love you."
"Me too."
And that was it. An hour long conversation to make up for a 6 week gap and a lousy excuse that he thought I was dumb enough to buy.
