Murph's awake first. He makes breakfast. It's eggs and toast, and I don't know what he did to it, but me, Gavin, and Steve're going crazy for it.
Our reaction leaves him, like, disoriented and confused. "I just used whatever was in the cabinets!"
I pick up a piece of toast. We don't have a toaster.
"How'd you toast?" asks Gavin.
"The oven?"
I snort, because Steve looks at me and asks, "You let him use the oven?"
"I promise, I was watching him."
Murph stomps. "I am fully capable of not burning your flat down!"
Steve laughs. "Of course, mate." He looks at me and says, "It's good to have everyone over." He inhales. "Feels like a loooong while since everyone was here." Steve looks at Murph. "Whatever happened to Adrian?"
Murph shrugs. "He went home."
I sigh. "Murph." He looks at me. "We know."
He cocks his head. And then his eyes go wide and asks, "Oooooh, do you mean what's happening to him now?"
I raise my tea mug and tip it towards him. "Love ya, Murph."
He goes red. "Shush. It's the morning. I'm not a morning person."
"Yet you somehow made us breakfast."
"Shush," he says, pursing his lips. "But yeah, Sometimes, I stalk Adrian on Facebook." He looks at me and adds, "The pictures he posts make him look so sad."
I roll my eyes. "Only you."
"Only me what?" He leans across the counter from me and eats his toast. "What'd I do?"
I pat his bedhead, which is fluffier than his normal hair. "Nothing. Just eat."
Gavin coughs. "Where's your girlfriend?" he asks Steve.
"Yeah!" Murph exclaims. "I met her on the cruise. Josie?" He looks at me for reassurance, but I shake my head. "J...Josephine?" Again, looks at me. And again, shake my head. "Meryl?"
...where did "Meryl" come from?
"Jessie," Steve corrects, pausing to take a sip of his coffee. "She'll be back around half four. She's visiting family in Sussex."
Murph's got flecks of egg on his lips, but he asks, "Does this mean she can come over later?" My boyfriend's bouncing on his heels, his fists against his chest.
"Y...y-yes?" He looks at me in his peripheral vision.
"Cool," Murph says, smiling. "Because it's a sausage party right now."
"Great movie." Steve tips his coffee towards Murph.
Gavin side-eyes me. "Aw, I thought you liked sausage."
"What?" Murph's lost.
I snort. "Nothing, luv. Don't worry about it."
The bleached-blonde comes over with four pizzas. And she turns into our savior because there's officially no appetizing food combinations left in the flat.
"Hi!" she shouts, hugging Murph. "Good to see ya again!" She rocks him back and forth. When she lets go, my boyfriend's stumbling.
"Jess, you just got here," I say, grabbing Murph's shoulders. "Please don't break him yet."
"That's your job, right?" She winks and turns away to throw her arms around Steve.
"...just don't hurt him," I mumble, arm still wrapped around Murph's neck.
