Chapter 5
As I walked, I picked up a scent that was faintly familiar. Like a distant memory almost forgotten, but still flits through my consciousness from time to time. I lifted my head and the scent became stronger. I smiled as I finally recognized it. It was Margo the falcon. As she swooped down I laughed and she quirked her head at me. A year ago I saw her and decided to throw a berry at her. She, of course, freaked and flew away, but as I was laughing a giant branch filled with too ripe berries fell on my head and I was drenched in goop. When I looked up I saw her seating there cawing at me. Since then she comes around from time to time bringing with her always a branch of berries. Honestly speaking, that is a SMART ASS bird. But I liked her. When I started to walk away the lazy ass hole jumped on my shoulder and nuzzled my face. I laughed again and continued walking. When I was almost home Randock, my little brother, came tearing out of the surrounding woods, tears streaming down his grubby face.
As I stood there and gawked at the fast approaching runt, Margo screeched and flew to a near by tree. "ASMIRA!!!!! I THOUGHT I'D NEVER SEE YOU AGAIN!!!!" my brother sobbed heavily as he wrapped me in his arms. I tried not to laugh but hugged him back. He buried his face in my stomach and continued crying. "Why did you think I wasn't coming home?" I asked softly stroking his wavy black hair. He got the waves from Father and the dark color from Mother. His eyes, though, were his and his only. One was a soft green and the other a deep blue. He shrugged and wiped his nose on my shirt. "I missed you is all," he mumbled as he gripped me tighter. When it was obviuos he wasn't letting go I lifted him up and balanced him on my hip and continued walking.
After awhile I looked at him and a thought crossed my mind. "How did you know I was coming? I was still a mile away." He looked away with obvious guilt.
" I may have , um, asked. . . umm. . . A person, yep, a person."
" A person, oh?"
"Yep it was defiantly a person."
"Was it. . ."
"NOPE," he interrupted quickly. I rolled my eyes and fixed a pointed look on him. He couldn't hold my gaze and finally cracked. " OKAY, Ok I DID IT!!!! I ASKED KEKO TO TRACK YOU!!!!" he cried breaking into a fresh batch of tears. I sighed and stroked his back. " Shhhhh. It's ok, I don't mind," I cooed gently. 'So your not mad," he asked sniffily. " No I'm not mad." He grinned and wiped his little nose on my tunic again. Aaaahhhh. The joys of big sister-hood. Snotty shirts and bruised hips. I adjusted his position on my hip and he squirmed. "I want down, I'm hurting you, and it must feel bad," he said gently. He was such an odd little elfling. Always trying to feel what I felt. I chuckled and shook my head, setting him on the ground. He ran ahead, through the trees.
A while later I saw my home. It was a medium sized house crafted from the gifts of the forest. Yeah, I know it sounds cheesy, but hey. I'm an elf. What do you expect? Well, any-who. The hut had three bedrooms, a kitchen, and a small library. My Father and older brother, Keko, and Uncle built it a full cycle after I was born. Before, I was told, we were living with my Mother's parents, but it became crowded after I was born. A week after Randock was born my Uncle died in the War our queen Namira decided to start with the foolish trolls. They are stupid and brutal, and even some elves get crushed by the pieces of shit they call weapons. That was. . . Let me think. . . So Randock is 7 cycles, his day of birth was in the summer season. . . . Seven years ago. I'm so smart. I shake my head and look up to see my mother walking towards me. "How are you feeling? Saana told me you were ill," my mother asked me, her voice tinged with concern. " I'm fine. Where's Sanna?" She shrugged and walked past me, into the forest. Damn forest, I hope I never have to go in there at night. The darkness scares me because all I can do is stumble and smell. I walked to the house and pulled my boots off. As I entered I saw Keko and smiled. His blonde hair was like mine, but his eyes were sea green, like fathers. In fact, he looked just like father did. Tall, proud, and handsome. He smiled back and walked over to hug me. I inhaled his comforting scent and pulled back. " So, sister, how is Miran?" His eyes gleamed with mischief and I blushed. As he laughed I went redder. " Fine, just fine," I muttered as I pushed passed him to get to my bed chamber. As I pulled the solid oak door shut, I let out a sigh of relief. When I looked up I saw my cat, Suma, curled up on my mat sleeping. " Scooch, cat, mama's gotta rest!" He lay there, unaffected by my shouting. I rolled my eyes and pushed him with my toe.
" COME ON I SAID SCOOCH!"
" Mrowr."
" OW!!! BASTARD DID YOU JUST BITE ME!?!?!?"
"MROWWRR"
"BASTARD! DON"T CLAW ME!!"
" Don't shout at the cat, dumbass, and maybe he wouldn't abuse you!" My brother shouted from the library. Damn douchey brother. I rolled my eyes and glared at the cat. He just got up, meowed at me one more time, and went to the sun spot under my small window. "Thanks Suma," I said grudgingly. He ignored me and went to sleep. "Fine, be that way!" I yelled at the cat. " Didn'y I tell you to stop shouting at the damn cat," my brother's voice called. I smiled and rolled my eyes, glad he couldn't see my smile. I laid down on my mat and crossed my arms under my head to cushion it. I looked at my ceiling and thought of my day. I've been doing that a lot lately, but it helps me relax. I closed my eyes and gave way to my subconscious dream world.
