On March 31, 2009, the original Spellcaster's Command Structure Deck was released during the 5D's era of the increasingly popular Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. While not being the first set of cards to implement the mechanic, the structure was heavily focused around Spell Counters, with the player using those Spell Counters to further themselves during their Duels. This Structure Deck introduced us to Endymion, the Master Magician, a card that would eventually become something more in just a mere decade.
A lot has changed since 2009, and just as such, Yu-Gi-Oh! has as well. Somethings stay the same, however, and history repeats itself. On April 19, 2019, Structure Deck: Order of the Spellcasters was released, and just as Structure Deck: Soulburner that came before, fully introducing the Salamangreat strategy into the game, this product revived the theme of Spell Counters in a much more powerful and impactful way.
Don't let the long lines of texts on their cards fool you, the Endymion theme is actually a fairly simple strategy to learn with an intriguing premise. The Deck revolves around using formidable Spellcaster monsters to swarm and fill the field with Spell Counters to activate powerful effects. Endymion, the Mighty Master of Magic is a Level 7 Spellcaster-Type Pendulum Monster with the ability to negate any Spell or Trap Card your opponent activates by simply returning any card you control that has a Spell Counter on it to your hand, essentially dodging your opponent's pesky effects while protecting your cards and replenishing Endymion itself with more Spell Counters to use in later plays and combos.
As for the placing of Spell Counters, it is actually rather simple in this Deck. Servant of Endymion is a Level 3 Spellcaster-Type Pendulum Monster that allows you to place a Spell Counter on it each time you activate a Spell Card, and once it has three, you can Special Summon it from your Pendulum Zone, as well as any monster that you can place a Spell Counter on from your Deck, just as long as it has 1000 or more ATK points, which isn't that hindering of a requirement.
With all of these magnificent effects, where the Endymion cards really shine are how they are able to synergize almost flawlessly with many other previously existing Pendulum strategies from the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V era of the game, such as Yuya Sakaki's Pendulum Magician and Odd-Eyes themes, as well as the Mythical Beast, Amorphage, and Dracoslayer themes. My own personal tech revolves around Summoning the powerful Level 8 Fusion monster, Dracoster Power, the Mighty Dracoslayer. Its only requirements are one Dracoslayer Pendulum monster and any other Pendulum monster on your field. Once it's on the field, all Pendulum monsters you control cannot be destroyed by battle or by card effects. With the proper set-up, and with the already present effects of your Endymion monsters, you could have a near impenetrable board that your opponent will struggle to break through, and to top it all off, Dracoster is a Contact Fusion, meaning that you can Summon it without the use of Polymerization!
With the new Endymion strategy, the possibilities are endless! It's a fun, yet powerful Deck that can compete on both a casual and competitive level. If you weren't interested in the Pendulum mechanic, now may be the time to give it a go. Perhaps the magic of the Endymion strategy could touch your heart ^-^
