The secret divergents

Chapter 4

All the dauntless cheer and push me out the door. I spot Lucas walking among the abnegation.

- "Lucas!" I yell to him.

He see's me and walks over, I push my way through the dauntless.

- "Hi." He says, almost embarrassed.

- "Lucas I don't want to hear any of your lies so just cut to the chase..." I spit out.

- "Fine. I got an Abnegation test result." he replies.

- "W-what? You got... Abnegation?" I ask surprised.

- "Ya I know... It's surprising but I guess that I'm a true abnegation on the inside." he continues, as he looks down at his dauntless clothing.

- "Okay, well I better go. Or I'll miss the train."

- "Emily wait!"

- "What? What is it? I really need to go."

Lucas kisses me on the forehead.

- "This doesn't change the way I feel about you..." He says.

I respond with a smile and run to join my fellow dauntless. I don't really know how I feel about Lucas, but I don't think the feelings for him have gone away. For now I push all that aside and focus on my initiation.

The train is rushing by me and I still haven't gotten on. I start sprinting at full speed and effortlessly jump on, as a dauntless-born I did this a lot.

I end up on the second last cart and find almost all of the transfers, they're all breathing heavily.

- "Are they trying to kill us?" An Erudite boy asks.

- "No, they're trying to test your bravery." I reply non-challent.

- "Easy for you to say, your used to doing this." A candor girl says.

- "Shouldn't you be in like the first cart, not the second last." Another candor girl blurts out.

Ugh Candors. I hate them so much, they're always running their mouths and never know when to shut it.

- "That's none of your business." I snap.

That shut them right up. No one wants to mess with a dauntless.

I roll my eyes and walk over to a corner and sit down next to an Erudite girl. She looks almost paralyzed, not moving, only taking small breaths.

- "Hey are you okay?"

- "What, oh ya... I'm fine. Just nervous."

- "It'll be fine. No need to panick."

That's a lie, for a weak erudite girl like her, initiation is probably going to feel like torture.

The train is finally starting to slow down a bit, that means we're getting close to the roof. After a few seconds I spot the red roof.

- "Wait. Are we supposed to... Jump?!" One of the transfers asks.

- "Yup." I say, smirking at how extremely scared they are right now.

- "That's insane! What if we don't make it?"

- "Then your factionless." I say as I take a running start to jump off the train.

I land on my feet then roll out, I feel like a prodigy compared to these transfers.

Eventually everyone makes it to the roof and one of the dauntless leaders calls us.

- "Get over here!" He shouts.

Everyone forms a tight circle around him.

- "Welcome to dauntless! My name is David. I'm the Transfer's initiate instructor. You'll meet the dauntless-born instructor down there."

- "Down there?" someone asks.

- "Yes down there. Your second initiation task, the first one being the train jump, is to jump down." He replies, almost smiling.

- "Is there like water at that bottom?" A transfer asks.

- "I guess you'll find out."

A few gasps comes from the crowd.

- "Do we have any voulenteers?"

Everyone looks around, hoping that they won't be the one to go first.

- "If nobody voulenteers I'm going to start picking at random."

- "I'll do it." I shout.

Everybody turns to look at me in disbelief. I need a new start, a fresh beggining. And this is the perfect way to start my new life here in dauntless.

I walk to the edge of the roof where David greets me.

- "Ladies first." He says, stepping to the side.

As I approach the edge, I realize that I actually have no idea what's at the bottom, all I see is a pit of darkness.

Just take a deep breath, count to three and jump.

I take a deep breath.

I count to three.

1, 2... 3

And I jump.
